Irvin calmly chats with gunman about Cowboys

DALLAS (AP) — Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin says he calmly chatted with a gunman in another vehicle after the armed passenger turned out to be a Dallas Cowboys fan.
Irvin, who was not harmed, says he was "very afraid."
A Dallas police report says Irvin was stopped at a red light Monday night when two men in a truck pulled up next to him.
The driver rolled down his window, so Irvin did the same, thinking the two men recognized the radio talk show host and television commentator.
The passenger flashed a gun. Then the retired NFL star heard one of them call out his name and mentioned being a "huge Cowboy fan."
Irvin says he began talking with the men about the team's disappointing 9-7 season and Dallas not making it to the Super Bowl.
The pair eventually drove off.

The Playmaker fails to report that after seeing the gun he pulled out a huge pair of scissors. After that they just talked sports.

Some people take being a fan way too seriously :laugh2:
I think some people (Mike) take being famous too seriously.

"He's rolling down his windows. Oh he must be a fan of me and must recognize me (through my darkly tinted windows even though it's night time) from my times as a Dallas Cowboy and from my numerous TV and radio gigs (radio?)"

And they say TO has an ego! Gotta change his name from Michael Irvin to Ricky Bobby!

So they don't steal the car of a guy who can afford and likely went on to steal one from someone who can't.

I'm being sarcastic. Glad he's okay.

Motorist points gun at former Cowboy Irvin, police say

A passing motorist pointed a handgun at former Dallas Cowboy Michael Irvin as he drove in Far North Dallas on Monday night, according to a police report.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame member was not injured. He told police he stopped at a red light in the 18200 block of Marsh Lane, near the Bush Turnpike, about 9:30 p.m., when the driver of the vehicle next to him rolled down his window, the police report said.

Irvin put down his window because he thought someone wanted to talk to him and saw the passenger in the other vehicle raise a gun, the report said. Irvin said in an interview Tuesday night that he feared the men had planned to rob him and changed their minds when they saw who he was.

“The passenger pulled out a semiautomatic and I knew what time it was,” Irvin said. “But he said ‘Oh, that’s Michael Irvin, with the Dallas Cowboys.’”

Despite being scared, Irvin said he tried to keep the conversation going.

“So we started talking about the Cowboys and everything,” he said. “Then they got back on the highway.”

“I tell you what, I’m glad he was a Cowboy fan,” Irvin said.

A detailed description of the men was not available.

man, that area of town is quickly becoming bad news. there was the shooting at the head shop there not too long ago. why would anyone go on a shooting spree at a head shop? everyone there is likely too toned down to notice your pain and it would take them even longer to realize they were shot.

but seriously, that section of town just seems out of place right now. you'd think good area. very nice homes around there. but wow. makes you wonder.

Not to get off subject, but when I saw that video of the head shop shooting, that had "gang initiation" written all over it.

So how does this work if your not Michael Irvin?

Say it was me in the car those guys flashed the gun at.

What happens next? Are they just showing me the gun for the hell of it? Are they going to rob me? Should I punch it and try to get away?

What's the proper edicate in these situations?

They probably drove off because they knew if they stole Mike's car and got caught that they'd be on the hook for drug possession charges as well. :D

Sorry...but Mike's earned it.

Glad Michael Irvin is okay.

Just proves that you can be robbed whether you are in Carrolton, where this took place or in South Dallas.
