I hate to say this, but Irvin is a worse version of Stephen A Smith. He's boisterous but he doesn't come across as if he knows what he's talking about, which at the very least Smith does from time to time. So you've got the loud factor without the smart factor.

With these radio hosts, I typically ask myself one of two questions... would he be on the radio if he weren't a famous former player and a HOFer, and is he coming across with fresh ideas that make me go, "huh, that's right."

Irvin delivers on neither category. Just like on ESPN, he's a weak host with little insight aside from being a petty sideshow act.

He does come with Fresh ideas, they might be wacky sometimes, but he does come up with new ones. Stephen A. Smith is an act, from what I have seen and heard. Irvin, for anyone who heard him at length know that it is not an act. The comparison is rediculous.

Irvin prespective is always from a player point of view. It has nothing to do with being a knowledgeble reporter or commentator type. Unless you heard his show enough or from begining, you wouldn't know that.

But each to his own opinion, I enjoy his show, because its entertaining and sometimes both wacky and informative. And he gets great interviews on top of it.

The Irvin show is what it is, Sports Talk Radio. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's ok, sometimes it's dreadful.

I agree with this point. Not to mention that Irvin's celebrity does allow him to get some great intervews that some other folks probably wouldn't. I don't think that there's any radio show host out there that wouldn't bore me from time to time.

Irvin is my favorite cowboy but I can't stand listening to him talk about basketball, and other non football related topics. I hate it when he attempts to preach.

Can't wait to listen to him when the season starts though.

Well, that in my experience is the hall mark of any guy is born again types. I am atheist, but in my experience, the guys who always were believer types, don't try to be too preachy. But the ones that are born again, especially ones who addicted to something ( alchohol, drugs etc.) tend to go overboard with it, at least in my experience anyway.

Although I don't think Irvin goes way overboard with it, like I have seen some do. But personally, I just don't pay attention to it when he does that.

But then I never have problems with people who are highly religious except when they try to force it on others by force. I do think Irvin doesn't always try go overboard with it though.

I disagree 100%. Every show I have listened to Irvin has taken this ridiculously outlandish stance (again, this morning he said America was not a free country and he was serious). The other day it was Irvin saying the NASCAR lady should get $225m dollars (they talked about it for over an hour...had nothing to do with sports...dumb)...those are the two most recent ones but its always Irvin with the ridiculous ideas. My problem with it is Irvin just seems to say the crazy thing to be different and appear to be a separate thinker or something....he also comes off as he just likes to argue rather than make any good points.

I listened every day since it started, my classes made it so I am out for a break during his show, I sit in the car and listen to the whole show nearly every day. Unless Mike gets preachy, sometimes that turns me off and I listen to music. The dynamic of the show is pretty clear to me. More over I think its well done and unique in the sports talk genre.

I've heard it. Fine with me....certainly not great, but not totally terrible.

But those who shares your beliefs would be hypersensitve to "preaching". I hear what your saying, but I would think an atheist would be more irritated by a man like Irvin who wants to share something that he thinks has been huge a difference maker in his life---but that something does not fall under your faith (and yes, atheism require faith too.) it sounds like you are fairly tolerant though.
