He had only 37 receptions last year. Two less than the year before. Yet on many plays he seemed open.

I know there are only so many balls to go around plus Witten gets a lot of the catches. Still his type of player really gives defenses fits and can extend plays. I hope they try to get him more involved this year.

If they continue to run the ball close to 50% of the time, i cant see how Beasley would produce much more than what he has thus far. 50 receptions would be his ceiling.

I think they use him just about right. It's not the numbers, it is what he does with those opportunities, as well as Romo taking advantage of those too. And they have done very well.

what's that old saying, ....don't go to the well too often.....

Last year we threw the ball much less often than we did two years ago.

Cole's percentage of caught balls verses the total thrown last year was much higher than it was two years ago.

Cole was also our best player in camp this year. His percentage of targets verses thrown balls is likely to rise further.

To answer your question another way..... No.

I know you watched the game last night and said why can't da bease get catches like Eldman, but the reality is that da bease plays behind arguably the best wr in football and Mr money at the te position. Dez and and Terrence are number one wr if they were on the pats, and Eldman would be the person who loses his catches. So while da bease could have games like Eldman did last night, he's playing behind Mr. X, the Money man, and Deepshot. ... and sadly he'll be regulated to plays where Romo needs a short pass and doesn't have the time to wait for his top 3 to get open. Can we utilize da bease more? Sure but it would take away from better players. So no we dont

I think you just watched NE last night and saw Eddlemon and Amendola catching all those passes. Eddlemon has turned into a fine WR.

Probably. I still question our offensive system, as it seems to rely on overwhelming talent rather than scheming.

I wish the offense did more to get receivers open and runners into space, but I love that we value the OL, feature a power running game and throw the ball down the field.

I could be wrong but I think it looks that way by design....the scheme is pretty straight foward.

Barring injury, Beasley will be used more this year. Just look at the last 5 games last year for a better measure.
He averaged about 4 catches per game....that's 64 catches. Not sure it'll be that high, but it could.

Also, my guess is that we'll throw it slightly more this year. Not enough to get out of balance, but more than last year.

Keep in mind, when you throw more to one guy, you throw less to others. Romo was the most efficient QB in the league last year, so it's hard to argue with that.

In order to get the ball to one guy more you have to get the ball to another guy less
Simple math
So do we run less? Throw to dez less? Throw to Williams less?
Beasley will get plenty of touches but he is never going to get huge numbers unless we go back to throwing 40 times a game

I think they have brought him along at a very good pace and over the 2nd part of last season it appeared to me that him and Romo were really clicking. I fully expect to see Coal have a bigger season

Very true.
Also last year Beasley got more looks because TWill had a broken finger. He did not get the looks because of that. When his finger was healed. He became more involved again. But Beasley also stayed more involved.

Romo was asked if he lost confidence in Williams and if it was because of his broken finger. Romo said, no, it's just the way things worked out. You go to the receiver that can make the play at the time. Rather a 1st down or a bigger play. Or he said something to that effect.

I think TWill was used more as a decoy at the time, though they claimed he wasn't, and allowed Beasley to get open more often.
Taking nothing away from Beasley, he is great. But as you said, only so many balls and chances in a game. Romo makes good use of that.

Beasley is basically the 4th or 5th option on any given play. Romo completed just under 70% of his passes last season, so he was hitting the mark.

The problem is the mark is Dez 88 times, Witten 64 times, Demarco 57 times, then Beasley and T Will 37 times each.

Witten is basically the WR2 in this offense. The WR2 is the 3 and just gets chances to make plays if Dez is doubled and Witten isn't open. And that is Williams. Beasley is even lower down the totem pole.

Could we probably hit Beasley a couple more times a game in quick stuff from the slot? Yeah. Do we need to when Witten almost always has the middle of the field anyway and Dez and Williams can make something happen further downfield? No.

People look at his stats compared to guys like Eldeman and what Welker got and think he is underutilized. But what they arent realize is that our offense doesnt feature the slot like NE's. Those guys are a product of the system. In our offense the most a slot can be expected to get is 50 catches or so.

Beasley IMO was smart to stay here as opposed to going to NE for many more catches, many more concussions and many few years
