Sorry for my first post to be negative but this is odd!

Johnson went 6-8 as a starter last season, losing his role to backup Tarvaris Jackson for the last two games.

Pretty much says it all.

Why would he be a mentor, Romo has Jason Garrett and Wade Wilson, of course Brad Johnson will give him insight during practice and the games but I don't see anything wrong with his comments....

Is the AP story bogus?
No, the title just doesn't mesh with the article. Nothing in the article indicates he wants or expects to be the starter. In fact, he seems to be implying just the opposite.

Romo is our starter period. No need to worry about anything else, unless he completely unravels, or is injured.

Anyone who has followed Brad's career will see that he isn't one to come in and demand to be the starter. He didn't start until his 3rd or 4th year in the league with Minny. TB signed him to be a starter. When he went back to Minny, it was to be a back up. When Culpepper left, he knew it was his to lose. He won't cause a problem here. Every QB wants to start, but they also know their place on the team.

I think it's just a case where the quotes probably just don't read correctly. I saw that article earlier, and I was almost confused by it. I think we all understand that Brad is just trying to prepare himself - not babysit a guy in his fourth year. Brad has a job to do, and he has to spend his time getting himself ready. This is not an issue.

The WR's and TE's Johnson will be throwing to in Dallas (in practice) have been to a combined NINE Pro Bowls.

Johnson's WR's and TE's in Minnesota have gone to a combined ZERO Pro Bowls.

Wasn't it Johnson who nailed two long TDs in that pre-season game last year?

No, it wasn't. He had a TD, but it wasn't long. His longest completion on the day was 11 yards.

Are you thinking of a different game?

USA Today:

Minnesota (2-1-1) outplayed Dallas in the first-half battle between starters, taking a 7-3 lead into halftime.

Brad Johnson went 11-of-13 for 135 yards with a 24-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Robinson, and the Minnesota defense came up with two interceptions deep in its territory.

Johnson drove Minnesota 98 yards in nine plays for the game's only touchdown. He completed all four passes during the drive, hitting Troy Williamson for 40 yards on the play before connecting with Robinson in stride in the back of the end zone.

I see nothing wrong with this...besides, he IS competing for the starting job. If he played lights out better than Romo all summer and in preseason, would we actually want the guy who was playing worse to start?

It's very unlikely, but he's not here to hold Romo's hand...he's here to be the backup QB which means he should compete every day without making a stink in the media, but he should be trying to be #1 on the field.

Again, it won't happen, but I like his attitude, and personally, Romo needs a little competition, just as every player does, even if it's not obvious competition like bringing in another starting QB.

I agree I absolutlely love Brad's attitude and confidence to be the starting qb come opening day. Brads not here to be Romo's lil guiding cast he's here to win the starting job. Romo didn't have a very good ending to his season last year anyway's and a lil stiff competition from a vet like Brad will only let us see if he gots what it takes to take the next step and man the starting quarteback position. Let the best qb win the job in t.c. and pre-season. Lets not hold Romos hand and make it easy for him and a cakewalk to be the starter.

Brad Johnson isn't the only QB to ever say he didn't want to be a mentor to a younger QB. He probably won't be the last. It's not in his job description, so I wouldn't worry about it.

None of the quotes indicated that he wanted or even thought he could be the starter. That's quite a misleading title to the article.

It is getting ridiculous that fans and the media mine whatever negative context out of a player's mouth. What is so awful about Johnson stating he is not there to mentor Romo. If anything he is showing respect to Romo and he also indicated Romo has a quarterback coach. Johnson also believes his role is to be prepared and come off the bench to win games.

This is not about making Romo more comfortable or building some massive support system around him. Johnson came here to be productive and hopefully contribute to the team. Now will Johnson give Romo input if he asks? Of course.

What's next, if Wade Phillips is grinless talking to Jones he will be resigning?
