by interviewing for other HC positions after Jerry not only made him the highest paid OC ever but assured him he would take over after Philips contract ran out if not sooner. Am I the only one that finds this whole situation a little strange?

He's already done that by screwing up this past season.

I wish he would already be gone. More interviews please. He was supposed to have one in Denver? What's going on? Faster faster! Quicker quicker!

didn't jerry give his permission to talk to other teams?

I think Jerry just wants a way out of the Garrett deal without firing him

Or maybe they're both adults and they want to work hard, challenge themselves, grow professionally, and get paid what the market will support. So hard to say.

Who can blame him for wanting to get away from MeO?

Very strange situation, two possible explanations.

1. Jerry is like most of us fans and sees that Tecmo is in way over his head and wants Shanny to come in and right the ship. (Cupcake goes without saying). However, he cant just come right out and fire Tecmo and keep Wade and he promised not to fire Wade, so Jerry finds himself in a pickle. He breaks the situation down to Tecmo and highly encourages him to take a HC job elsewhere since it is not in the cards in Dallas.

2. Jerry says jack to Tecmo, but Tecmo went to Princenton and is a pretty smart guy and knows the job was his to lose and he probably did. Tecmo knows there is no way in hell that Jerry makes him HC in 09 and with Cupcake at the helm, 09 probably is not that much better than 08 and Tecmo knows this is not Buffalo and a repeat of 08 gets his arse fired. So Tecmo is looking out for himself and is going to jump at the first HC offer he gets.

My .02

I believe that clubs must allow coaches the opportunity to interview for a job that is considered a raise even if under contract. So Jerry is complying with NFL rules that only restrict certain times for interviews in the above situation.

Can't read anything into it. And no self-respecting person would prevent someone from a promotion.

but he's gonna get paid more by Jerry and Coach the freaking cowboys!

After this abortion of a season I'm not sure he wouldn't like to be somewhere else.

Phillips' job (i.e. Garrett as his successor in Dallas) was Garrett's job to lose, and he single-handedly LOST it.

Both of these explainations sound logical to me.

I don't find it strange. If I were Jason, I would want the opportunity to be a head coach, provided the situation was right and would allow me to succeed, as soon as possible. There is no guarantee that Wade will leave after one more season, especially if it is a successful one, so choosing not to leave after one more year may put off Jason's goal by several more.

I don't think it's disrespectful at all. Under the terms of the contract, Jerry could probably have prevented him from interviewing but didn't do so - if nothing else, that's a way for Jerry to communicate to Jason that he isn't offended and/or that he isn't all that fussed about him leaving, which I'm still a little skeptical of.

I agree...the players clearly dont care enough about winning (with a couple of exceptions)...they dont work hard, the HC has no clue how to get the team to focus...its just a circus atmosphere...cant blame him a bit for perhaps wanting to leave

This is what I have been thinking since day one of the "Jerry gave permission" news. I think Jerry silently recognizes his mistake in coming out too soon and assuring all that Wade would be back. Now that Shanarat is in the table Jerry sees this as a way of getting rid of Wade by making it seems as though his hand was forced to act after Garrett left. (assuming Garret does go elsewhere)

Brilliance by Jerry IMO.

What it proves to me is howthe media and anti-Jones pundits repeatedly get it wrong. I read so many ridiculous 2008 lame duck Wade replies and threads it was mind boggling. In fact the regurgitated theory currently is that Wade is now the lame duck coach for 2009.

The bottom line, we don't know squat what goes on in the organization and some fans just like to act out over any perceived slight of what the team should be doing based on their hallowed perspective.

So much for the theory of Garrett's before-hand hiring undermining Wade and being part of some inevitable replacement agenda. If this were the case Garrett would have been head coach this year after the 2007 late season collapse.

Now great hay is trying to be made about Jones wanting Garrett gone because of the offense falling short this year, thus the approval to go head coach interview. Well it is NFL mandated that a coach must be given the opportunity to interview for a position that will lead to promotion such as head coach.

All we have are circumstances fueling the typical leaps to conclusion.

We have a winner.
