Is Dak Unsignable?

It's hard to see how the Cowboys can come up with a Contract to sign Dak due to him already having a $40 Million dead Cap hit next year.
They would have to account that money to be spread over the life of the contract in addition to any Bonus his new contract would require.
They would have to sign him to a 6 year contract to make the numbers work. But, if we crap the bed again this year or next, they team will be unable to move on from Dak or the cap hit will dwarf the $40 million.
If we don't progress further in the playoffs this year, then the already frustrated fanbase will be more disenchanted and have more animosity toward Dak.
I think that plays into Jerry's consternation about signing Dak to a long-term deal. He's seen Dak not succeed on his previous big deal and he has to be hesitant to give him $200+ million dollars for mediocrity.

If I know the Cowboys they’ll sign Dak to whatever he wants and watch as the team suffers with no hope of winning a title.

Its what they do.
Oh, come on now, Dak was the second place MVP and the 16th best player in the NFL. When JJ gets drunk again he will sign Dak for many more years just like he gave Garret 10 year to fail.

Fisher said the other night on his podcast (I think Tuesday night) that the Jones wanted Lance to win the job. Unfortunately Fisher added that looked looked highly unlikely because Lance hasn't been cutting it. Fisher said Jerry's rationale is simply that he wants to have the ability to walk away from both MM and Dak at the end of the season if he doesn't like how the season goes. Take this FWIW but this will highly likely drag on.

PS: As has been stated before the podcasts can be a painful listen.

Fisher is dumb if he thought Lace was expected to win the job 2 weeks into training camp.

With the other contracts we have to sign he may be unsignable for us. CeeDee could be looking for at least $35 million per and Parsons might be looking for $40 million per next year.

To clarify, Jerry wants Lance to win the backup job. That’s what he’s competing for. From listening to the camp reports that’s not looking good.

He is unsignable to me, just ride it out and see if he gets it done in the playoffs.

Its a win win for dak if he doesn't sign. lose in the playoff and you get to pick a new destination... win and you will be paid handsomely.

This isn’t exactly correct. It’s a little bit complicated, but it’s only 40m$ if he doesn’t sign. It shows up as 40 on cap sites because he’s not currently signed, so that’s the hypothetical. If he’s signs, it won’t be a 40m$ cap hit.

How it works is he has multiple years of dead cap hits in the future, and if he leaves the roster before they trigger, it will all escalate to the moment he leaves, ergo all 40m$ right when he becomes a free agent. But if he plays through those dead cap years, they stay spread out. So if he signs, his dead cap next year from the previous contract is only 26m$, and the rest is in future years

No. They want him to win the starting job from how I understood it. Jerry keeps talking about the GB game and win before getting paid for a reason.

If they get him signed, people will quit talking about it.

I don’t think Jerry is in any rush to make that happen….and he hasn’t exactly made that some sort of secret. He wants his attention, that’s it.

If you’re listening to Fish, you’re wasting your time. Lance doesn’t even look like he’s going to win the backup job from listening to all the negative reviews on him during camp. It’s been consistent throughout the media that’s been watching the practices that he hasn’t looked good.

Your welcome to think whatever you like. Bottom line pen hasn't been put to paper even though offers have been. Probably because Dak didn't like the offer and Jerry knew he wouldn't. That is a called a PR move by the front office. Looks like the FO is trying when they really aren't.

Even if Dak isn’t extended he’s going to be our starting QB this season. If you think otherwise you’re kidding yourself.

No, Dak isn't unsignable. The Cowboys could extend him any time they want to.

Clearly they hesitate to do that and for good reason.
Well, I think it was reported that JJ sent an offer to Dak, so if Dak wants to be a Cowboy and win rings, why has he not accepted the offer? Does he want to bend JJ over again? Maybe Tad told him, get the hell out of Dallas.

Yes, and it doesn't seem he cares to be a Cowboy and just wants his pay day. I don't hate him for this, but it seems very clear this is his end game. It also seems that the Jones family want him, but not at his price. If Dak doesn't cave, this will be it for him in my mind
