Is Dallas an Old Team???

I did some quick statistics on the team because I was curious, For Reference Goose Goss in 2003 rated the teams. http://www.***BANNED-URL***/sharedc...ories/093005dnspofbwgosselincol.1b7903b4.html
In 2003 Dallas starters averaged 28.09 with 10 starters over 30. I computed the 2006 team using the base 3-4 package and Base 2-TE offense. I don't believe we are as "old" as indicated because we have a tremendous amount of youth in backup positions, however I think the offense needs to be addressed in the draft next year. Food for thought.

Average Team exp* Excludes Kickers/Holder

4.22 Starters over 30

9 Average Exp of Starters Offense (11)

7.1 Average exp of Starters Defense (11)

4.5 Number of Players over 300lbs

14 Average age of Starters Offense (11)

29.0 Average age of Starters Defense (11)

26.6

Offensively, I think we're old in the wrong positions....

QB
WR
WR
LT
RG

Now, if Romo is our heir apparent, then we get younger at QB. I honestly, worry about our age at WR. I think we need to look early there at the draft.

Defensively, we're very young and talented.

Currently 11 out of 53 players on active roster are 30+. Link.

Bledsoe
TGlenn
TO
Flo
Fabini
Rivera
Ferguson
Ellis
Singleton
AGlenn
Vanderjagt

Average age of team is 26.37736, which would be 3rd place on that list from a year ago.

Like others have said the age is at some key positions though, which is a little concerning.

When speaking of a teams age perception is everything. Vandy alone changes the average age but he is a kicker for crying out loud. Yes we have some older guys that will need replaced. Specifically I would like to get younger at QB, WR, OL and CB in the next couple of years.

Yep, if Vandy's 36-year-old self was just a year younger we would have been the second youngest team avg. on that list from a year ago.

I'm kinda curious now about how we stack up to other teams in the 2006 season.

I do not believe this to be true.

Future QB-Romo
Future LT-Mcquistant(SP)
Ill give you WR and guard but fourtuntely those positions can be found in late first and second rounds. History tells us this...
The Cowboys future looks very bright know matter what happens this year playoff wise.

What's the sound of one hand clapping?
If a tree falls in the woods, but no one hears it, does it make a sound?

Gosselins article only dealt with the starters, which is what my analysis was based upon, if you factor in all 53 players I am not sure how we compare to the rest of the league

We have an average age of 26.32 years old, which made us the seventh-youngest team in the NFL at the start of the season. We're also the fifth least-experienced team in the league, with an average of 4.08 years of experience. And we have the sixth-most first-year players with 11.

So no, we're not old.

The Commanders are old. They ranked dead last in all three categories -- they're the oldest team, the most-experience team and the team with the fewest rookies. And they're last by a good margin in all three categories.

Yeah, but they have Sean Taylor and Clinton Portis and Carlos Rogers. You're just a homer. Age doesn't mean anything. Cowboys suck.

And that's all of the rebuttals from Commanders fans I could think of.

actually, we're old at all the right positions

you need a veteran QB, and a veteran LT protecting his blind-side, and WR is a hard position for most young players, that usually takes them till their 3rd year to find their groove, or that's the norm at least, RG? mmm, I wouldn't worry about that, 32 isn't old for an Olineman really, although we need to find the future there as it seems Rivera's body is breaking down

if you're old on a team, you want it to be at the skill-positions on O, and we're not even dreadfully old there, we're fine IMO
