Right now, I'd say
1. Seattle
2. Green Bay
3. Dallas
4. Pittsburgh
Why?
1. Seattle still has Marshawn Lynch, most of the defense in tact and added Jimmy Graham. Besides, they were a fluky play away from winning their second consecutive Super Bowl. They're the best until someone knocks them off.
2. Green Bay gets a healthy Aaron Rodgers back, and he's the best quarterback in the business.
3. Yes, we lost DeMarco Murray, but we improved the offensive line with the addition of La'el Collins and we improved the defensive line (our major Achilles' heel) with the addition of Greg Hardy and Randy Gregory - not to mention that we get promising DeMarcus Lawrence for a full season. And, I think Tony Romo is going to have an MVP year. I predicted 14-2. I'm not backing down, despite where I have the Cowboys in this ranking.
4. Pittsburgh - The Steelers will be more pass-oriented this year and have the next best set of Triplets in Brown, Bell (who must serve a suspension) and Big Ben. And the Steelers always have a formidable defense.
Why I didn't rank the Colts, Patriots and Broncos?
1. No defense, and I'm not convinced a washed up Frank Gore is the answer to their rushing woes.
2. The Pats lost Revis and Wilfork. Those are huge minuses, and Tom Brady may start the year on suspension. Even if he doesn't, I think the Pats "no-name" player approach to building teams is going to catch up with them this year.
3. I think we've seen the last of the great Peyton Manning. And while even a very good Peyton will beat most teams, I don't think it will help down the stretch. Besides, they lost their best offensive lineman for the season due to injuries. Ouch!
