Is Golden Tate the best Wide Receiver in this year's draft?

I believe Tate is one of the best if not the best in the draft. He was the best player on the field when ND played, it was obvious. Every DC accounted for him on each play, not floyd. He doesn't remind me of Steve smith or Miles Austin at all, he's very unique, reminds me of a throwback type player that I cant quite put a finger on. When I watched him play, all I kept saying is there's something special about this guy. He's a stocky guy with explosive speed and quickness, big play guy.

He has great hands, great character, great speed and he's very smart. If he was 6'0 he would be a top 10 pick. I don't think he will be around when we pick but if he is, I think he's a Cowboy.

Tate is very nice...IMO 2nd best to DEZ
Dez has hands like no-other....Reminds me of L. Fitzgerald mixed with a B. Marshall type body
Tate would suit perfect in the slot for us and would be happy if we took him...Although I would rather take Pouncey in the 1st and Shipley in the 2nd...I believe Shipley would be amazing with us...

But if Dez is there past the 20th pick...I would move up to take him...A player of his caliber doesn't pop up very often. Best Highlight film I've seen, considering the QB made throws that forced him to adjust to.

Tate will be the best WR in this draft, yes. I think he's alot like like Austin, just more experienced coming out of college.

Too many people look at particulars and miss the bigger picture...Tate's a playmaker; football player

Great Point.

I wonder if all these people pimping Dez Bryant also pimped Mike Williams and that other tall slow WR from USC, or Antonio Bryant. Some people get so enamored by the size of the diamond that they don't look at the other things that make it special. Same with WR discussions. I don't see what is so special with Bryant. He's not focused. He doesn't have NFL level deep speed and his hands aren't THAT good. I don't believe he will be all that special.

I know it's all in good fun trying to decide who the best player is at his position in the draft. So the thread is legit, for fun anyway...nothing more.

Just think how hard it is to even decide what specific player is the best of his draft class even after he's played in the league 2-3 year...let alone the 100% speculation of saying who is best before they play an NFL down.

Ex. Omitting CJ, who is better between Felix, Rice, Mendenhall, etc from two years ago? Even now, it's still highly debatable.

I'm sure we'll have a better idea in 2-3 years, but we may not even know then.

Well said. I agree with most but I think he has enough speed. I also think he will be at least pretty good. I think he's a risk to be a special player but I'd take the chance on him. I think he'd be better than RW right out of the gate.

You don't return 3 punts for TD's in only 22 attempts by being slow.

And a whole lot pointing to Golden Tate being the best wide receiver in this year's draft.

I disagree with you. I believe that Bryant is awesome as well. But I think that Golden Tate is a top 3 talent.

alright now you're just talking stupid. Top 3 pick? Gimme a break.

Seriously though, if Dez, Iupati, ET, Pouncey are all gone by 27, Tates a HUGE sleeper pick. Would take over immediately if Crayton's shopped, which seems likely now.

Why Dez over Gold?

because he's the CONSENSUS number 1 WR, who could have gone 3 overall, and can slip all the way to 27.

Dez is better then Tate in everything except straight line speed...

The only reason why you say that because he is taller. You ain't talking statistics or production or even durability.

Here's some statistics.

Golden Tate: 32 Games, 157 Receptions, 2707 Yards, 26 TDs; 4.91 Receptions/Game, 84.59 Yards/Game, 0.81 TDs/Game

Dez Bryant: 27 Games, 147 Receptions, 2425 Yards, 29 TDs; 5.44 Receptions/Game, 89.81 Yards/Game, 1.07 TDs/Game

The biggest difference here is the TDs/Game
1.07 >>>> 0.81

And yes taller and bigger is better when it comes to WRs. There are very few really good short WRs in the NFL, DeSean Jackson and Steve Smith are the only ones that jump out to me. Length, Height, Weight, and Reach are the difference between Bryant and Tate in addition to Bryant's TDs, Receptions, and Yards/Game.

Dez Bryant looked like a man amongst boys. That saying gets thrown around too much, but with Dez Bryant it was true. He rarely got one-on-one coverage and still made plays.

It's hard to argue that Tate is better than Bryant so I give the OP props for having the balls to do so, but Bryant is heads and shoulders above Tate because of the huge difference in his physicality, measurables, and performance.

The reason I'm saying that is because I don't have a woody for Tate and theres no comparison between the two. That makes a lot of sense. 'Cause he's taller'. Obviously that helps, but its quite obvious just by watching tape Bryant is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better WR prospect then Tate. Theres actually no comparison. NOBODY could cover Dez single coverage. Tate isn't even the best WR on ND.

And Dez has better statistics to so I don't know what you're saying.

That's how I can tell you don't know what you are talking about. Anytime you say statistically he was better than Tate. You do the research.

If you had watched Dez Bryant play you wouldn't have started this thread. Most people consider Dez (without character issues) to be a better prospect than Crabtree. Do you consider Tate to be a comparable prospect to Crabtree? If not, then he's not even close to Dez.
