Is Hamlin ever getting a contract?

Math books? ****, I haven't taken a lick of math in decades. I hated math back in school. The biggest reason I became a lawyer is because I didn't want to ever have to do math. There is no way I would have kept a math book for anything other than kindling.

This is largely a stupid argument, and as someone who hates math, I can't tell you how aggravating it is to log on and see someone jumping on one of my comments because it is not correct in some narrow mathematical sense.

It's too early in the morning for that. At least wait until I have had a few drinks.

I hear ya man, I've spent my life avoiding math too, hence why I became a designer.

Watkins is a decent special teams player, but beyond that he's not shown much. The thing he's most remembered for to this point is when Bill Parcells made him cry on national television and glued him to the pine.

Just funnin' with ya Pat.

To be fair the biggest play the guy ever made was when Chris Canty blocked a Ryan Longwell FG and Watkins returned it 68 yards for a TD.

Precisely, aside from that giving up 4+ deep ball td's:eek:

I think Hamlin is solid. Nothing great or anything. He benefited a lot from the pressure system Wade runs that forced QBs to make bad throws. He made some good plays, and made some bad ones (one of the Welker TDs in the NE game was his worst I think). He'd be nice to have, but is not irreplaceable, and not worth a ton of money.

If someone has to find 15 better FS in the league does that mean there are only 1 or 2 average FS and everyone else is either above average or below average? To me there may be 4 really good FS, and then the next 10-20 guys are all relatively close together, and then the rest are pretty bad. I mean safeties aren't exactly the most well known players in the league. Most people couldn't name more than a handful, and the ones they can name are the really big names. I bet Hamlin isn't really too well known to fans outside of Dallas or Seattle either.

Hamlin didn't make plays in pass coverage he was just there.

being at the right place at the right time is what some people call talent. ;)

IDK i think he was just over his head a lil bit. Playing for dallas being a rookie and playing against NFC east rivals. I think he improved tremendously from his first year to his second year.

Hamlin not the type to break on the ball and make a play. Hamlins picks were he was just like sitting there and the ball was thrown to him.

Watkins breaks on the ball and makes plays.
I was one of the ones that predicted that Watkins would have a breakout season this year, but even I will admit that as of right now, Watkins is nowhere near Hamlin ability-wise. Breaking on the ball is one thing, but play recognition is something that Watkins is not good at right now. The reason why Hamlin appeared to be just sitting there was because he is experienced and good at recognizing the play, thus putting himself in position to make the play.

Watkins simply does not have the experience that we need at this point and he would downgrade the position if Hamlin would not re-sign. It would be ludicrous for the Cowboys to go out and sign Adam Jones and draft Jenkins and Scandrick to solidify the secondary only to weaken another position by replacing a proven pro bowler with an inexperienced player.

The goal is to win a superbowl and we have the pieces in place to do that. Hamlin is a piece to that puzzle; no need to throw away a piece that we already knows will fit and replace it with a piece that looks like it might far from a distance.

I think Watkins has learned a lot over the past year and he should be ready to step in and play. And Henry should move to safety as well, providing more depth there. What I think is far more "ludicrous" for the Cowboys is to continue to play Roy Williams at SS when he is obviously the weak link in the defense -- and everyone in the NFL knows it. If we have that many quality guys in the secondary we need to move them around and get Roy off the field. Best thing we could do to take the next step.
