That when Wade Phillps left the Chargers they promoted Ted Cottrell to replace him and he was quoted as saying he runs the same exact scheme. The Chargers have alot of talent in the secondary with Cromatire, Jammer and Cason to name a few. Isnt it weird that the Chargers always give up 25-30 points and a ton of passing yards. Even Jamarcus Russell threw on them this weekend. Brandon Marshall caught 18 passes on them.

I hate to say it but its the scheme. Even in Wade's press conference he said that some were open due to scheme. This defense isnt design to take anyone away; its designed for an offense to take long drives and hope for them to mess up on the way. Its not a horrible way to play but if your going to play that way we should release all of our high price secondary players because any avearge NFL corner can play under this scheme. They just need to be able to tackle.

Again, everytime we get beat its because the defense were playing is aggressive. The Skins bumped, held and ran with our recievers all the way down the field. The same way the Giants did in the playoffs and Eagles right before the season ended last year. If we played like that I really beileve we would be more successful. Very frustrating. And,,,,, nice call Stewart on taking Campbell's first read away it really worked. I would be more comfortable with Zach Thomas calling the defense than Stew. Nothing against Stew but this defense is not championship material. Just the facts. We just better hope we outscore everyone in the playoffs and not have to play somewhere in snow and wind.

For one, when Wade/Cottrell were in Buffalo, Wade was THE mouthpiece for that D. Cottrell was nothing more than a bus driver(like Stewart is now).

With that being said, Cottrell SUCKED wherever else he went. He was fired by the Jets, and then by the Vikings when he went there, and then filed for retirement papers before coming to SD.

When Wade was in SD, they played alot of press coverage. It wasn't until Cottrell got there when they started playing alot of zone.
