Is it asking too much to run the ball to the outside?

That's a lot easier to do when the first contact is a cornerback because you are hitting your big runs outside the tackles. You don't get NEARLY as many yards after contact when the first guy to hit you weighs 320 and not 195.
Much thanks, Ron, you really saved me time on this one, and said it better to boot!!!!

I'm confused about your rationale. Tony is averaging almost 4 ypc and it would be a little higher if not for the short TD run.
And it would be a little lower if not for the long run!!!!!!!!!! See how that works?

An inside RB is a type of RB. Polly is not that type.

It's funny how people just cannot accept things about a player. Romo couldn't throw the slant worth a durn. Emmit lacked long speed.

You know, a player can have faults and weaknesses and still be very good.

The negative with outside running is it can lead to a big loss with the speed of these defenders.

Outside runs are hard with NFL defenses team speed. Also with the way the Dallas backs are built teams probably guard against it even more.
Especially against the Jets with their personnel.

Often times we continue to run the ball up the gut, over and over and over. I know it's a part of an offense, but we have guys that have quick feet, getting them out in space may be a bit helpful at times. Please give your thoughts....
And it should be often up the gut, ..that's where you start and continue up the gut.
When you watch NFL games around the league, you always noticed run games going inside to off tackle.

That's where the pulling, trapping and countering of the OL block schemes occur.
With only occasion a pitch sweep designed for the edge run ...ala Pollard's 58 yd TD run vs Saints.
But you don't make a pitch sweep frequently. You pick your spots for that.

Don't get the impression that Pollard, Rico and Vaugh are primarily outside only, as that would not
be accurate at all. They work inside to out,.. inside to bounce out, in according to how they feel an opening.

- We're not yet where we would be - with Tyler Smith out at LG.
Backup Chuma simply does not have Tyler sheer brute power and athletic ability: and Tyler can reach to the
second level, that Chuma cannot.

- I think we are making the grades at blocking with the TEs, especially from Schoon to Fergy.

- Another thing to watch is the lead FB blocking, to which the team wants Hunter Lupeke to provide,
and seems anxious to want him to develop in that area.

It’s the olines job to make sure a RB isn’t hit until he gets a couple yards. Last year pollard avg 2.6 before contact and the same after contact and he didn’t just run outside last year. He can run between the tackles but I wouldn’t pound him up the middle all day either. I actually think Dowdle looks good running inside as well. A big bruiser is great but if all a guy can do is get those short yards he’s a liability on most plays

I think Luepke can develop into a decent lead blocker but it’s something he will have to learn. It didn’t look like he did much of it in college

Is it asking too much to run the ball to the outside?............. Yes it is !! how dare you question mike and shot !! ......... LOL
other teams do it too, no ryhme or reason, and your not supposed to question the coaches, because they work in the nfl !!
you/we dont !
Also they are trained professionals !!!!!!!!! ( even chip kelley lol)
but yes I dont know why they continue to run inside if the oline cant open any cracks.
Also if you study how lineman do block on each run play you might be surprised lol sometime I see some head scratching stuff.

There isn't space running outside. Outside runs you just hope a guy finds a gap and can turn upfield, but there's no more space there, especially against a good defense. What you're asking for is more of a quick pass/screen game, which I agree with.

Didn't they have two touchdown runs against the Giants attacking the edges thougH?
I don't know if this is what the OP was referring to or not, but remember the run play for our final TD against the Giants? That pitch left to Turpin? He basically did what you described. I've seen Pollard have success with that play.

true. but we still can be critical of things we see right? like no one here would be unhappy if we go on to win the superbowl with similar results offensively, but on the way if there are noticeable things to clean up there's nothing wrong with acknowledging it. with that said, i'm jazzed so far
C’mon now. You know it would really hurt many people here

Depends on the defense, doesn't it. Who's running outside on the Cowboys right now? Nobody. They're too fast. You take what the defense gives you.

Are we watching the same games? The cowboys have been running on the edges.
