I’ve been amazed at how many times I’ve read lately on our forum that “our new OL is going to be better this year than last year.” I find that comment as fans hope rather than a statement of fact. Nothing wrong with hope at all. It’s just different than fact.

Lets take off the fan glasses for a moment and compare two new rookie players to the players they replaced along with our RB position compared to last year:
  • Tyler Guyton and Tyron Smith- I really like Guyton as our first round pick. His athleticism and size give him huge long term upside at the most important position on the OL. But will Guyton be better than Tyron Smith, both immediately and down the road? At best that remains to be seen. Smith was a 2nd team All Pro last year despite his decline due to injuries. He’s probably headed to Canton at some point. I’m going to tap the brakes on thinking Guyton is going to be instantly as good as Smith. Maybe eventually.

  • Cooper Bebee and Tyler Biadaz- Bebee is an underrated pick in my view and has instant “ plug and play” potential. Probably even more than Guyton. But he’s learning the center position this year and although Biadaz was not great, he was good. Bebee may have a learning curve to start the year at least.

  • The RB position - We are hoping the combination of Zeke Elliott, Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn are collectively better than Tony Pollard was last year. Objectively, that seems like a stretch of hope, not fact. Maybe we still have a RB move in the near future that will upgrade this position because I can’t realistically call this position as a strength.
Bottom line for me- I like the guys we drafted this year. Especially Guyton and Bebee. But expecting those two guys along with a diminished RB position to make our running game and offense immediately better is hope, but we can’t call it a fact yet. Right?

Hope is a good thing. I have it. But I don’t consider hope the same as fact.

I dont think it’s very realistic to think the OL will be better this year. Guyton and Beebe will be rookies…and no matter how high you are on them they aren’t going to come in and be instant upgrades. Our fans love to trash on Tyler B for some reason but he just signed a contract with a top 10 AYV.

The big hope for me is a bounce back from Steele. If he can be good as a run blocker again that will help our RB room which at the moment is laughable.

I just can't see why some fans are already predicting a pro bowl for Tyler Guyton who hasn't played a down in the NFL. I have no idea how the OL will play this year and last year we really didn't have a lot of players who were injured so the OL was pretty consistent. Add in that Tyler Guyton is changing to a position he's never played and it just remains an unknown. The real question to me is when we have injuries on the OL, how good is our depth? A 3rd grader could draft a great player in the first round, but getting quality players we can develop in later rounds is where we build our depth.

I agree although Guyton has played LT in college. Bebee on the other hand has never played C.

Everything is hope until anything is proven fact. Dallas picked up some good pieces. Those pieces must be combined with existing starters. The entire line must gel together as a unit by discovering each other's strengths and weaknesses in pass and run situations. The coaches must gameplan for what they do well or not so well in mind. And injuries must be kept trapped inside its ugly bottle.

Fact is a possibility. Time will determine if-and-when possibility is removed from speculation.

Again, hope is a good thing as a fan. Hope however is not a viable front office strategy.
But Bob, what is the FO strategy?

The things they are doing and more importantly NOT doing has to make us consider things outside the box.

Is it logical to assume that they are not signing big contracts so they can more easily sell the team and reap the windfall of Billions?

It's a crazy theory but what they are doing is just as illogical

Yea, I’m very suspect. My concern heading into season offensively is if our OL is in a rebuilding stage and our running game is limited the pressure will be on Dak to be more mobile avoiding pressure and the passing game to carry the load which could spell disaster. Like in injuries.

It’s not hope or fact. It’s dumb. A rookie is going to come in here and play better than Tyron played last season. A second team all pro? That’s pure idiocy. A rookie who is raw and was taken late in round 1 nonetheless.

It's never fact in sports. It's always opinion and hoping one way or the other depending on the topic. One reason I think we will be better is because I think Martin and Steele will be better than last year. Also, I am not as high on Biadasz as you. I don't really think he was "good". I think he was average and I just don't think he was powerful enough in our run game. He seldom seemed to get any push and many of our runs were just clogged up (not all on him obviously).

RB seems like a different topic, but since you included it, I'll just say I think there is almost no chance we won't be a least a little worse than last year. My "hope" is Rico steps up because I don't think anyone else has the potential to even be average (I don't really think he does either, but he is still a little of an unknown so he might be if we are lucky). Well, my biggest hope is that we still acquire another back (even if a rotation guy) between now and week one and I think it's about 50/50 we do)

Yea , there’s always a segment of fans who are generally more zealous thinking we’ll win every game, score every possession and have the greatest organization and team.

Basically no room for reasoning . Let them wander in their fantasy world . No harm until they begin calling out more sensible analysts , critics and evaluators. The ones they call haters or whiners. Lol
