Is it just me, or is the league getting a bit stale?

More than a bit stale. I’ve quit watching anything that’s not my team and the Jones boys are killing that.

Yep.
Lemme see, my list of complaints are the additional 17th regular season game, more playoff teams, Thursday Night football in general, inconsistent officiating, legalized betting and overseas football.

Leading to total over exposure and watering down of the product.

And then they're gonna add an 18th game soon.

So yeah, stale is as good a description as any and gonna get even worse.

Is it just me, or is the league getting a bit stale? The overanalysis of whether to go for it or not. The over officiating to where you can barely go a drive without 3-4 penalties. The seemingly worse play on the field than years past. I get that players are getting bigger and faster, but the football intelligence seems to be reducing.

I'm just curious why it seems like the league just doesn't seem quite as good as it used to be? Is it just because the Cowboys aren't good this year that I'm noticing this? Either way, as far as I can tell, the NFL product this season seems worse than I can remember.
It’s you

All of what yall are saying is true...but if the Cowboys were winning...none of this would matter as much. It's what happens when the team sucks...the clownface makeup of the NFL is removed and the raw machinery is revealed. It's why winning is so important even when the teams absolutely stink. I'm all for tanking but losing just takes all the luster out of the game for everyone.

Yeah, but I guess it's also kinda nice to see some of the underworking machinery.

As soon as the NFL endorsed betting and is getting a piece of the action my confidence in the outcomes of the games went way down. The last three super bowls reeked of being fixed with timely flags assisting all three winners. It seems like the sport is out of this sport and that all that is left is money, money and more money. The players are all businessmen, the refs are likely on the take and the owners collude to make more and more $$$. The fans are the suckers who support all of this. After a game, the players are all smiles, exchanging jerseys and hugs and thinking about how much they made for very little effort. For my time, I enjoy college football much better. The games are more fun to watch. The refs are nowhere as noticeable, and the players genuinely enjoy playing the game. The pros in the NFL and NBA have lost their luster to me. It really feels like the baseball and hockey players still enjoy playing their games. The NFL is just corporate entertainment, with a severe dose of betting lines and false ads about wanting to help those with gambling addictions. Look at Jethro, full time owner, part time GM, 100% capitalist. I stopped supporting his products years ago. Will not go to a game, buy a piece of merchandise or in any other way put any of my hard earned on anything Cowboys or anything NFL. What a shame. It used to be the best game and the best league.

No kidding. Not to mention making Taylor Swift a huge part of the league now. It seems to me that the NFL has basically gone from being about football (hence the name) to selling the game to the masses. It's watered it down to try to make it more appealing to the masses, when it's like, hey, it's faux football now. If people like football, they will tune in. Their arguments about player safety is a crock with all the TNF games. The games are officiated to such a degree that it feels manufactured if not scripted.

There's a Packers fan on YouTube by the name of Tom Grossi who does a weekly "If the NFL was Scripted" series after each Sundays games and a special one for Monday night the day after. It's hilarious, but it almost feels exactly like how they'd be scripting the games if they were.

Salary cap and QB pay, as well as other players ruin teams as well. They claim for parity. But why do some teams that are $50 million in cap hell, all of a sudden have $50 million in cap space. While other teams can't do the same.

I mean, I get the parity part, but it still just feels stale and manufactured.

Extremely accurate post.
Great job.

You don’t think the games get better as the season goes on
have not noticed much of a change in the last 2 months at all

now you do get improvement after the first game or two but none after that
starters play so little in pre season and with so few full contact practice sessions you need two games just to get to where they used to be at the end of the pre season

Well in the NFL football isn’t the first second or third most important thing

When they start pushing streamers on you it’ll suck even more it’ll be cowboys vs chiefs featuring “X streamer from twitch” and the coverage will be split between the streamer and the game

Also they’re adding an 18th game

And if you suggest it to Goodall then the playoffs will be a best of 5…

I do feel like I miss that handful of stars that jsut jump off your screen .

Feels like that all of the best players are boss rushers. I miss seeing the Calvin Johnson or brettt Favre or Adrian Peterson Type offensive talents

You wouldn’t be thinking that if we were winning. I feel it too. That’s what’s missing. We got spoiled around here for 3 years only for our idiot owner and his stupid son to go screw it all up!!!
It’s a weird feeling to wait 7 months for football and then your season is over within the first few weeks. This franchise jsut hasn’t given us a lot to latch onto. There’s not even liek a crummy Quincy / hutch debate to be had
