from now until the start of the regular season is good LOL

what was your fav Beatles tune? for me it's "Imagine", that's the one with the line, "something in the way...you move, attracts me like, no other lover"? what a beautiful song, I could chill on that all day, I got the CD w/ all the Beatle's #1 hits, but I think they should have added "Lucy in the Sky" just because it's a great song too, and "I am the Walrus"

Well Imagine was done after the Beatles on Lennon's second solo album.

The song you are referencing was written by Harrison with the first few lines of it uh, "borrowed"

For me, the energy of the early stuff was where it was at. It's not as deep as the material that came about later. It's not as complex. But the energy level on those recording is simply amazing.

And I couldn't pick one song.

In spite of my comments about the early stuff, it's tough to get better than the second side of Abbey Road...

Now this is my kind of thread.

I don't think Parcells orchestrated this situation, but he has the potential to play it like a symphony.

And the British version of Revolver is the best Beatles' album. It doesn't get any better than "Rain."

I got to get that album

Yeah...you do.

"Let It Be" was released after Abbey Road. But Abbey Road was recorded after Let It Be.

You need the biggies...You should start with a very early album...then move on to Rubber Soul or Revolver...you'll hear the change in style and growth...then of course you need to get Sgt Pepper...and then Abbey Road...and realize all of that happened in a span of about 7 years...

The great thing about them was that they were artists. Ya see, darn near every other group had a "sound" and they stuck with it.

The Beatles on the other hand were true to their art. They had a sound...and then said "Nah...that's boring. We did that already" and so they went to another sound..and then changed that.

Pretty impressive.

Great song.

Notice I suggested that summerisfunner purchase Revolver.

no, educate me

The "mersey" beat was BIG in Liverpool at the time. Originally there were these little skiffle bands and it lead to the Mersey beat.

Lennon as a big fan of Buddy Holly and the Crickets.

So he combined the Mersey "beat" idea with the play on words ala the "crickets"...ie, beetles...

And came up with "Beatles"

Juke, have you read "Tell Me Why" by Tim Riley? Page after page of nothing but one (very perceptive) guy's interpretation of the music.

Another tip I can give you is this website:
http://www.stevesbeatles.com/wgo/faq.asp

Summer, you should probably listen to the albums first. ;)

Thanks.

I just recently read "The Beatles Recording Sessions"...the book had tons of details. Great stuff about each song.

Ya see, the thing about them is...they were simple.

Today, I can listen to a guitar player and think "There is NO way I'll ever play like that" I do that when I listen to Tommy Emmanuel. But at least I know that I can't ever be that good.

But the Beatles are a different story...a few major chords...and occasional minor...heck I knew those chords when I first started playing...so ya go back, again and again, and write stuff (and I CAN write) and yet, it always falls short.

:)

Yeah, two different gifts really. I'd take a songwriter (not necessarily a lyricist) over a musician any day. But when you get them working together--look out. And in the case of the Beatles, the lines blur. You've got Ringo's fills in "A Day in the Life" or Paul's bass into to "Michelle", things anybody could copy, but things nobody would think of.
