Is it possible for a Cowboys starting QB to not be a polarizing figure?

I've come to the conclusion that there's really only one possible way for a Cowboys QB to NOT be a polarizing figure, and that is to play so poorly that he is disliked by both nearly all Cowboys fans and non-Cowboys fans alike.

If the Cowboys starting QB plays superbly (i.e., Aikman, Staubach, etc.)................then he will still be very polarizing, because success often breeds its own form of dislike. Tom Brady, for instance, is very disliked by numerous NFL fans often precisely because of his success as a QB (often at the expense of the teams that these other non-Patriot fans root for.) The 1990s Cowboys were very much disliked by numerous NFL fans precisely because they were an excellent team. Cowboys fans would obviously like such a QB, but non-Cowboys fans wouldn't, so.......he'd be a polarizing figure.

If the Cowboys starting QB is good to mediocre (Romo, White, etc.)............then he will be polarizing in a different way. He will still be disliked just because he quarterbacks one of the most polarizing and popular teams in the NFL (the Cowboys,) but there will be a deep split among Cowboys fans as to whether he's really a good QB or not (just check out the hundreds of Romo threads here.)

If the Cowboys starting QB plays terribly..
...........well, there's not much to be polarized about. Many non-Cowboys fans will dislike him because, as always, simply because he plays for the Cowboys. Cowboys fans will also dislike him because he plays terribly. Most NFL fans, Cowboys fans or not, will be in agreement - he's a terrible QB!

No because quite frankly Romo is pretty low key. He doesn't go out and talk BS about the media, his team, or himself.

He really just goes out and plays. It is the media who creates the circus around the QB. No matter who comes, it will always be that way.

Romo proves this.

Aikman was hardly polarizing until he started broadcasting.

I don't remember Aikman & Staubach being disliked. I know that they weren't by Cowboy fans. Even though there were many that disliked the Cowboys, I think it was more as a team and not the QB. I do agree with your other points because White and Romo did divide fans and I remember Chad and Quincy did as well even though both were pretty bad.

I think plenty of Packers, Eagles, Commanders and 49ers fans disliked him when he was still QB.

That's not what "polarizing" means. Romo is polarizing: either he is a skilled QB held back by an incompent organization or he is a choker. who wears his hat backwards and can't lead. Fans of other teams may not have liked Aikman because he was a rival, but he was generally well respected as a QB, leader and personality.

Polarizing isn't the right word.........it would be the most "Scrutinized".

And the answer to your question is a resounding NO......quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys will be the most scrutinized position in all of sports, deserved or not.

Aikman and Staubach were loved. It took Danny White a while.

case in point: look how many people (in here and some in the media) are talking about Manziel being the Cowboy QB...we aren't even going to be employing him but the position REEKS of media attention

Oh I don't know. I'm pretty sure Ryan Leaf was universally hated :)

Win and everything takes care of itself. People will talk, but when you win, even those talking bad about you don't really believe what they're saying.

Some people love to celebrate " perceived failure" and the Cowboys unfortunately give them reasons to feel that way . Also, they love to kick a " winner" when they are down, and we have been down for a long time....

By Cowboys fans only, or by fans of the other teams in the NFL as well?

I have a hard time picturing Commanders fans liking Staubach in the 1970s.

If the only criteria for being "polarizing" is that fans of other teams don't like you then everyone is always polarizing. You risk making the concept meaningless.
