Is it too late for a QB switch?

I've never been one to play into the theory regarding the fragile psyche of the starting QB, like he's not a football player, like if you bench him at the wrong time, you'll destroy him.

For me, it's never too late to replace the starting QB. Last three games or the playoffs, if you feel you are going to lose the game primarily due to poor QB play, then you make the switch whether it's third quarter or fourth. Coaches pull RBs without a second thought if the play poorly or put the ball on the ground. You do what you have to do to win.

Last game, vs the Giants, Dak struggled, but so did the team. I would never have pulled him because I didn't feel he was incapable of pulling off the win, never felt he was the one guy holding the offense back.

But if I felt the QB was the guy missing open throws or turning the ball over and holding us back from victory, I'd pull Dak or Romo late in any game and try something else. It's not usually just one guy, but it can be, and then it's never too late to make a switch in a game, and that doesn't automatically mean you change the starter for the next game.

I don't think so but if Dak has another game today like he did last week, then the switch has to be done for the Lions game. And Romo will need the whole week to get ready for it.

Of course that's just my opinion. ;)

It's never too late, even Jimmy Johnson put aikman in trying to get a spark, it didn't work out very well and it probably won't be good this year either

Not in this instance.

The chemistry on this team, and both QBs, will be fine regardless.

Even if Dak gets pulled, he'll be fine.

No, it's not too late. You do whatever gives the team the best chance to win.

Dak was a 4th round rookie that never expected to be playing this season. Romo was the entrenched long time starter. If Dak gets replaced by Romo there is no chance that he loses confidence.

If Dak was a high 1st round pick and got replaced by a journeyman veteran like Sanchez, then it would be a problem.

Having said that, Dak's struggles last week have been greatly exaggerated. When the #1 WR on the team has an F grade for the game, it's really hard for the QB to succeed.

I kind of wish they would just go ahead and pull Dak, because when Romo is laying on the turf once again... the controversy ends and Dak returns to his rightful place as starting qb.
What happens if Dak goes back in and breaks his elbow?

Good response. Most are so pro Dak or Romo they didn't stick to the philosophical question. I've seen games when I thought Romo should be pulled in the fourth, but I would never pull Dak in a game like last week because it wasn't just him.

My point was you pull any player if he's the one guy holding the offense back for a chance to win. I'd pull Dak or Romo for Sanchez if they were crapping the bed in a playoff game and showed no signs of pulling it together if it was clear the rest of the offense was effective.

Unfortunately, maybe that's the best way to handle this. Romo will last 3 plays. When he's carted off the field, we can stop this nonsense.
