I also never said Ferg was cooked. I just said 4 catches for 40 yards doesn’t really change anything either way. The pro Ferg crowd is going to remain pro Ferg. The anti Ferg crown is going to remain anti Ferg. He put up average TE numbers today.

If there's an individual player on my team known best for scoring touchdowns, I evaluate him as the best guy to have.

Catches and yards are nice for fantasy leagues. In the NFL you win based on points scored. Not if a guy has a nice stat line.

If a guy plays 800 snaps a season you want to evaluate that’s player performance based on 1% of their plays?

I’m sorry but if you think Davonte Adams was more impactful for the rams last year than Puka Nacua was because he scored more TDs I really don’t know what to say. I’ll take the guy with 1700 yards over the guy with 700 all day

Here's where I apologize. I went back and read some earlier posts in this thread and realized I had the context all wrong.

I guess Jake Ferguson was a better receiver than Ceedee Lamb since Ferg had 8 TDsand Lamb just 3?

Should we have traded Lamb for Kayshon Boutte since he had twice as many TDs last season? No because what you’re arguing is absolutely laughable.

It your judging a player based on the smallest number of plays possible.

If a player gets 800 snaps in a season do we throw out 790 of them because only the 10TDs matter.

You think Puka Nacuas 1700 yard season was less valuable than Davonte Adams 700 yard season because Adams had more TDs? Come on there is zero chance you actually believe that.

Nah, just as has been mentioned several times in this thread already I really don’t care about TDs in terms of individual evaluation. IMO touchdowns are a team stat and not a reflection of a players impact on a game. I’d much rather see a 8 catch 120 yard 0 TD game out of a receiver than a 4 catch, 40 yard, 2 TD game.

Fergy is fine. 4 targets, 4 receptions, 2 td's. There's only so much a tight end can do in this offense. They don't use tight ends to go down the field much in this offense. It's an escape route. It's a dump off pass for deck. It's not a downfield weapon. We have better options at wide receiver than to use any tight end on this roster or most other rosters. So it really wouldn't matter what tight end is on this team when you have CD and Pickens.

I am not sure you’re aware, but the game is won and lost on points scored. One could catch 1,000 yards worth of passes and no TD’s and lose 2-0 on a safety.

TD’s matter. They’re kinda the whole point. 99% of TD’s caught by a player are thrown by a QB.

And TDs are scored by teams not players.

If you think Bijan Robinson is just an average player because he only scored 7 tds last year then you would be a moron.

You’re literally suggesting we evaluate player impact by a very volatile statistic. James cook went from 2 TDs in 2022 to 16 TDs in 2023 on fewer carries.

Touchdowns are probably the worst possible way to evaluate a player. It’s actually ridiculous you’re even trying to debate this.

But he’s also decent enough where you can be like “yeah that’s who we’re rolling with”.

I don’t see why we can’t be like “yeah this works alright” and move on to more important things

Agree. Nothing wrong with Ferg as your starter, he’s just not nearly what we thought he was after a breakout 2023 season.
