Is KeVante Turpin on the hot seat?

I don’t think Turpin should be thought of as receiver #3, 4, et cetera. Rather, he is your primary return guy and gadget player in the offense that you sprinkle in.

In other words, I think the team should go five deep at receiver + Turpin, rather forcing him to be one of your Top 5 receivers.
Agreed. I don't love keeping 6 WRs but if two of them (Mingo and Thomas) can give you good work on the coverage units, it's not going to hurt you.

My guess is Turpin makes it but his only true value is on kick returns. As a WR he’s a gadget play guy at best who probably hurts you being on the field if the rest of your WRs are healthy.

If the cowboys have a legitimate replacement on special teams I could absolutely see Turpin being cut/traded. His AP award last year is more so due quantity over quality.
Lead the league in KOR and had 30! more returns than all but 4 other players lol.

I don't love Turpin as a WR, but he is clearly the best return guy they have right now. He's made some big plays for Dallas as a receiver at times. I will give him that. With CJ Goodwin retired, the Cowboys have more room for a special teams guy.

Is he worth the money he is paid? That's a different question. His CAP number is $5.7 million this year. Is that a lot? I don't think so, not even for a return specialist - if he performs to a high degree. IF he adds some big plays as a WR it adds to his value.

One thing to keep in mind, all speed guys slow down eventually. I am not saying Turpin has yet, but he is 30 yrs old.

The question when cutting a player is always who takes his place. Does anyone trust Traeshon Holden yet? Or Mingo? Of Blue?

NO

Bet?

He will be on the roster in the same capacity he was last year, book it,

he will not be gone thus he does something crazy off the field you know something strange something outside of football It does happen but no he will not be cut. NOPE

We're talking far too much about this just because of what you think you're seeing from the other receivers who don't do what he does ,

He literally had some of the longest plays from scrimmage last year on the offense, he's a gadget player but he also in the return game you think that he's fell off and he didn't there just wasn't as good at blocking and everyone is calling for the special teams cause to be fired last year because nothing looks special and it was more because of injuries That's right the injuries on the defense affect the depth that you can use people on special teams so we'll see what it looks like this year but he's the same old Turpin and he has a unique niche job on this team that not one person has proven they can do and he's done it in a regular season not practice not camp and not fake games that by the way he didn't play in that's all you need to know he's a starter he has a role and he has a spot
I think that’s a solid, reasonable argument. And it’s probably correct. But here’s a different way of looking at this situation.

The roster cannot be viewed in a vacuum. Will we go longer at another position which puts pressure on us to go shorter at WR? If you only keep 5 WR total and Turpin is one of those five then you REALLY only have four WR, because Turpin is not that great as a WR.

Turpin “might” net you a pick in trade. I’m not saying that pick would be valuable. But I’m not sure that Turpin’s roster spot might not be better used on a more complete player. I’m not totally sold on Turpin as a WR and I’m not sold on him being consistent enough as a return guy.

The idea that Turpin is some kind of gamebreaking kick returner is silly. He is pedestrian.

Of players with at least 15 KR, he ranked T-22 in average.

And he is a flat out poor punt returner. Part of returning punts is actually catching them, and his decision making in that regard is horrific. I think it was the Minnesota game where he let one bounce at like the 35 and it rolled all the way inside the 5 yardline. At least Patrick Crayton caught everything.

They're not going to cut him, but he's not a difference maker.

Yep he's terrible!

Tell ya what. List who is better than Turpin. Cordarrelle Patterson? Marcus Jones?
