Is Marion Barber a spare?

Since we already had a speed back, I wish we went for Brandon Jacobs

From what I've seen...he's a punishing runner. Don't we face him this SundaY? oh boy.

Brandon Jacob would have made our draft perfect.

Hindsight is 20-20. 31 other teams passed on him also.

I say give Barber some time and he could be a good backup.

And I believe Parcells wanted a backup more in the Julius mode so that they didn't have to implement what would basically be two different running offenses. One for the starter and one for the backup.

I think Barber is a guy who could have used another year of college ball before going to the Pros. I still have hope for him.

I was really hoping for Sproles. I do like Barber. I think he will be a fine back up. Getting Thompson has been a nice unexpected bonus. It is nice to have some options.

Have you seen what Lawrence Maroney has been doing? If I was Barber I would have left early too with Maroney on my heels.

DeAngelo is better but I am biased :D

We all know that Barber hasn't been given too many chances to show what he can do, but when he has been in there...I'm quite disappointed with what I've seen of him. Hopefully...he will improve as his opportunities increase...I hope.

That kid Maroney is a monster. The kid goes about 5'11" 205, but somehow he plays bigger than that while demonstrating excellent burst and speed. I believe he's a junior now.

Yeah, Maroney is a junior and is a very impressive runner. He has a great combination of power and speed. Minnesota must have a great offensive system when it comes to running the football because they are always among the best teams in the nation in terms of rushing yardage, regardless of who the running back is. Barber probably made a good decision to leave early because not only does Minnesota have Maroney, but they also have a freshman named Gary Russell who is having a monster season as well. He has 505 yards on only 66 carries (7.7 ypc) and 8 TD's in 6 games this season. Barber was a good runner at Minnesota, but if he had stayed his senior year, he was probably the third best RB on his team.

Brandon Jacobs has 60 yards, and a long of 21.

The scouting report on MB3 was that hed be solid in a year or two.

So far hes had about 15 carries. Lets give it time

Agreed, no worries on MB3. He's a rookie 4th round pick. Keep the expectations where they belong.

If nothing else, he'll be a serviceable backup. Don't expect him to carry the load.

He looked pretty good right?

Broke some tackles, showed nice hands.

And I saw him own Strahan at one point, he can be a legit 3rd down back

I still think what I thought in TC and preseason. I like MBIII more than Tyson Thompson. I think he has more RB ability in an all around game.

I like barber too, he looked pretty comfortable in the offense to me, and that was his first nfl game. looks like he has a natural feel for the game, i want to see him play more.

I agree. He seems to have a solid all around game. Nothing real flashy.

I saw him really bust his *** on blocking assigments which is a must.
