Saw this in a mag and couldn't believe it.. said that with one yard to go to either score or convert a first down, MB3 was among the worst in the league. they threw out a stat of him only converting 14 of 26. any stat wizards out there know if this is correct? if so, i am surprised.

Interesting that they used the benchmark of 1 yard and not 1+ yards to convert/score. So any time he converted/scored on more then 1 yard, he wasn't given any credit. I wonder how many other RBs are held to the same standard. Surprised if there such stats available for only 1 yard. I'm inclined to think a RB is given credit for all needed yards to convert/score for a first down. Anybody know?

It does.

What the statistic quoted above demonstrates that in short yardage situations, the situation was predictable and teams knew that on 4th and 1, he was getting the football. Go watch the Eagles game for a clinic on how to not call plays.

We were not daring or creative enough to ever give them reason to believe he wasn't. And he still converted over half into touchdowns. That is remarkable. That is just what happens when you look at a statistic and think it tells you the whole story. Do not worry, there are many like the original poster who think in the same limited fashion.

He could be over-rated. Like many people on the team he sucked the last few games of the season.

That was the worst set of playcalls I have seen in Dallas since Coslet didn't have a fourth down play.

He had the benefit of one of the greatest lines in football history. I don't blame him for having at least some faith in that.

Sorry, I didn't see that in Dallas last year. Much less running a pitch play to Barber, who isn't a strong perimeter runner. That was an utterly horrible set of downs and we never quite recovered from that.

There is one positive about Barber's production last year.

Think of the playaction possibilities.

He's a weapon on the goalline. Even if they know it is coming and with sloppy blocking like he received. He might not even score as many TDs as I believe we will be a little less brutal in the approach, but he is still as fine a goalline runner as we have had since Emmitt Smith.

we find out how good he do this year cant wait till or first real game

He will score less TDs I predict. And then you will hear some complain he simply was overrated. Which will lead some to question how good he was int that role last year. And that would be incorrect, but that rarely stops people.

Anyone with a little football sense can see he is very effective in short yardage situations.

O-Line had too many breakdowns last year or the running backs would have racked up better numbers.

Rivera often was beaten backwards o bull rushes that caused breakdowns in the passing & running game.

Davis will eliminate this problem and balance the line out which will make DC wary of slanting and run blitzing us as much.

The running game will be powerful and dominate.
