Lots of UT homers here. Mike Williams has definitely not been what the Bills thought he would be when they drafted him 4th overall. He has a rediculous 8+ million cap figure next year and could be a cap casualty. Any chance there is anything to save there and could he be a RT for us with his texas ties?

I'ld take him right now. But I would stay away from most Texas kids. They are usually underprepared for the NFL game coming in. Williams has been in the league like 5 years now and has never lived up close to the top 5 pick he was.

That's an odd observation given the number of Texas players of recent vintage who are making an impact very early in their careers. Off the top of my head, I count Chris Simms, Ricky Williams, Roy Williams, Shaun Rogers, Casey Hampton, Marcus Tubbs, and Nathan Vasher. I couldn't come up with many Sooners, though.

If he was salvageable that'd be the perfect pickup for the cowboys. If Parcells can get him to lose weight, and get his head in it, he could be a dominant RT. I've been wondering the same thing all year.

I think he would be worth the shot. But I dont think we should give him the big money like we gave to Rivera. Sign him for 1 Year with incentives and then if he plays good resign him to a nice deal.

Drew Bledsoe would be thrilled (not). I'm surprised about Mike Williams. I thought he had everything you would want in a lineman. He seemed to move really well for his size, huge and strong, great personality, seemed bright, good attitude, motivated, team guy...don't get it.

I would like to take a shot, but he's not been especially good.

And what do we have at RT now?

Mike Williams might not be "especially good" but especially average would be a huge improvement at RT at the moment.

Mike Williams was an all state DT from The Colony Texas which is where happen to live. He's a stud player who was never really all that thrilled being an OL. He went that way at UT because they told him it would get him to the pros. It did but it isn't a position he has a passion for. I wonder if he could be a run stuffing DT?

Williams is having the same problems as our present starting tackles... He's not able to handle speed rushers. The Bills' have tried him at guard some also. That could be his future.

No thank you. He's lazy and is just collecting a paycheck. To me he shows no desire to play NFL football. Seems like a nice guy in interviews, but he's just another in a long line of guys who are talented enough to be real good pros, but once they recieve that first big signing bonus they don't have that burning desire to play NFL football. You wouldn't believe how many guys in the NFL don't even like playing football, they just like the money. Many a first rounder over the years, now that they're set for life, see no need to work on and improve their game. It's a shame. I want no part of guys like that.

Haven't the Bills trotted him out as the left tackle?

He and Leornard Davis haven't performed to the levels they were expected to when drafted. I wonder if Johnathon Scott will fall into the same category.

I think you have to judge each player individually. When you start ruling people out by talking about Cal QBs, Florida WRs and Penn State RBs you might miss out on a bonafide stud like Larry Johnson.

Of course. I wasn't ruling Scott out just because he went to Texas. I also wouldn't compare UT lineman that came out 10 years ago to these guys, but since they have all come out in recent years, you have to look at some of the similarities. They each had the same strength coach for example. Did that strength coach max out their abilities in college or is there room for growth? Things like that.

Davis and Williams have more in common to each other than to Scott. Davis and Williams had the same line coach. Scott didn't. Davis and Williams both played in the same offensive scheme their entire stay at Texas. Scott played in different schemes when Simms was QB and now with Young as the QB.

Evaluating the college he played at and its history is a part of evaluating the individual. Just a part.

mike williams was here when when the last oline coach was at texas. the current one has installed a more definitive aggressive nature to them. you're about to see a bunch of new oline players from texas hit the nfl and they'll be better.

as for williams, he's soft..but he's got talent. worth a look, but not a lot of money.
