Of course it is. The problem is will we bring in the candidates? Win a SB here and you’re set for life.
Jimmy Johnson won a SB here and he got cut. Winning a super bowl anywhere will get a person get set financially. Jason Garrett got set for life without a super bowl nor coaching again after Cowboys except a small stint with Giants.

Not attractive enough for McCarthy to stay. If that was Jerry Jones’ choice the Cowboys will hire a better coach than McCarthy. Otherwise “extremely attractive“ would be an overstatement. I think the most attractive HC position is the one that pays the most. No one is coming to be the head coach in Dallas if they can get more money elsewhere.
True, I didn't consider monetary compensation, but I didn't think that was what the OP was talking about.

As far as MM is concerned, I believe someone reported it was mainly an issue on length of contact. But who knows if that is true or not.

So ya, if Jerry is being cheep, then coaching the Dallas Cowboys is not as attractive as it could be.

But if you are talking legacy, I believe this is an extremely attractive job. Win, you resurrected a failing franchise. Lose, we all know Jerry screwed you over.

Legacy is a term fans use when their favorite team isn’t very good. People who make a living in the NFL are inclined to base any position on compensation. Frankly, the most recent Dallas Cowboys’ ultimate success is recorded on cave walls. Cowboys need a top notch head coach. Archeologists work for the Smithsonian Institute.

While I have no doubt that there is a good portion of the NFL that only cares about the paycheck, I believe most, or at least the really great ones, also care about their legacy.

If legacy had no part in it, why did MM take the job being one of the lowest paid coaches in the NFL? I believe he may have been thinking:
  1. I can fix the Cowboys and resurrect their legacy
  2. When I do, I will be the first coach in NFL history to lead 2 teams to SB wins
Considering that it is reported (again, who knows if they are true) that the likes of Belichick and Sanders are apparently interested, I would say the Cowboys job is more attractive than some suggest.

Does that mean the Cowboys land "a top notch head coach"? IDK. There's a difference between getting a job and wanting a job.

If even Jerry Jones cared about ”legacy” wouldn’t he pay what it takes to attract the best? Even you indicate McCarthy was one of the lowest paid head coaches. (he was mid-range in compensation) The only head coach candidate that will tie his personal legacy to Jerry Jones’ is one that has no other viable career options at a moment in time.

If Jerry opened his wallet for the best head coach candidate he would get more out of his wildly reckless investment in Dak Prescott. It’s not that Jerry doesn’t think big. He doesn’t think at all. That’s where a bonafide General Manager would be helpful.

I think everything Jerry has done the past 26+ years is 100% due to his legacy.

He didn't get enough credit for the 90's Cowboys, so he's done virtually everything in his power to show that he is the brains behind the Cowboys success since he's became the owner. And he's failed. Yet his ego will not allow him to do anything else.

He will NEVER hire a GM because as he says, he is the final stamp on every decision the Cowboys make, so there is no need for a GM.

I 100000000000000000000000000000000000% disagree with that, but I am not Jerry or a Jones, so I doubt he gives two craps about what I think.

So I'll will see what happens. I myself expect more of the same, but we shall see.

I said a GM would be “helpful”. I’d never suggest Jerry Jones is wise enough to hire one. He isn’t.
