I can't dispute the reports, because overall this unit hasn't been put to the test. I just hope they come together, gel, and stay healthy. We will just have to wait for the season to find out. Come December we either be praising them, or looking forward to Jerry blowing another draft on secondary players.

K. Smith was good not great, his side was thrown to 85% of the time of course he is going to be penalized more since he will see more passes since no one wanted to throw to Deion's side. Same reason why the corners opposite of T-New look horrible because no one wants to throw towards T-New.

BEFORE his injury Kevin Smith was a top 5 CB, or very close to it. BUT when you are playing next to #1 anyone is going to look bad on occasion.

Before Kevin Smith ruptured his achilles tnedon he was an excellent corner. If you don't believe me go ask Jerry Rice.

Very true, and, opposing QBs threw away from Deion, and Smith got the majority of chances.

Before his injury Eric was the best RT in the game.

^^This

Big E would completely maul the opposing guys. He used to make Reggie White look like a kid. Reggie White even commented himself how much he hated playing against him.

And how quickly we forget how good Kevin Smith was. Back in the day he was a pretty good shut down corner as well.

I would love to have both of these guys playing today sans injury.

I guess they didn't get the memo that we will be light years better with the acquisition of Sensabaugh, Mike Hamlin and the emergence of Jenkins and Scandrick.

All the dead weight is gone, ( Henry, Pacman) and we even have a diamond in the rough in Alan Ball to count on.

This secondary will be a good solid unit. Mark it down.

The biggest problem is that we don't have any proven commotities in our secondary.

You can't count on newman to stay healthy the whole year. The two second year corners, you don't know where they're at in their development. Alan Ball is a complete question mark. Sensabaugh is a huge question mark, its not like the whole league was after him. And Hamlin is coming back from a pretty poor year.

Our cornerback situation is pretty much as precarious as our wide receiver situation.

We should have brought in at least one more seasoned player on both sides of that equation. We lose a player even if it isn't the #1, and we're all of a sudden very very shallow at either position.

But on the other hand, these young players could really show up. And perhaps giving these guys a chance will elevate us to a hungrier and more youthful style of play.

Sometimes you just gotta have players step up.

Roy Williams couldn't cover meatloaf with ketchup.

Anthony Henry lost a step last season (he's probably lost another this year.)

PacMan could not be counted on, you never knew when the other shoe would drop and a suspension would come.

I honestly think our secondary will be better this season, barring major injury, of course.

Yea, we have to spend money to sure up our #5 cornerback position. This is ridiculous, and calling it as precarious as the WR spot is plain silly. We go 3 deep at corner and Alan Ball has looked good enough in spot time. Mickens has 1st day talent. Eventually you have to trust the scouting department and let the young guys play. We had a "proven" commodity last year, his name was Anthony Henry and he was total suck.

GoBoys if your #2 CB is in his 2nd year playing, generally you'd at least want your 3rd corner to have some experience...

I'm not saying spend money on a 5th corner. I'm saying our #2 or #3 should have more than 1 year playing experience... ESPECIALLY when your #4 is in the same position... you don't want that much youth and inexperience in the secondary.

IF they all stay healthy... maybe it works out well for us. Maybe they go into sophomore slumps... i really don't know.

Hopefully the secondary will remain intact and injury free during the season, albeit highly unlikely. One thing to consider is that Hamlin and Newman have the experience to guide the youngsters along,if they will take the role of being a mentor. If that were the case we should be in good shape, barring significant injuries.
Another thing I think I think is that alot of these rookie secondary players were supposed to have excellent ball skills, maybe that will translate into more turnovers. However that could be a moot point if the front seven does not get pressure on the opposition forcing some errant throws.Something else about ball skills,I remember Aikman pointing out that Newman seems to miss out on alot of pics because a lack of those skills(seems to have alot of drops).
Ofcoarse we need to see what happens during training camp and pre-season before catergorizing any of them as anything.Being optimistic today I think that they'll be the reincarnation of an early 80's unit that was full of inexperience. If during the coarse of the season if all things related to Cowboys' football is in disarray,I will become pessimistic and rant and rave.If I were a Dallas beat writer I would be writing about how I told you so.But anyway thats what I think I think for now,But I'm like Texas weather. If you don't like it,wait five minutes and it'll change.

our secondary is not going to be a problem at all this season.we have a upgrade at SS which is the most important weakness of our secondary .we also have a lot of youngesters and rookies who have a lot to porve.Scandrick and jenkins will shine imo.my only problem is that they should hold onto picks and be more aggressive this season.
