No way! Say it ain't so. Why I thought we just brought this subject up last week and the 'experts' hammered it down. ;)

Well, it would be sad to see Rob go. His old man posts here and is always honest with us, so no matter what your opinion of Rob's future is, you have to admit, that's just flat out cool.

Would like to see one of these young linemen drafted by Bill work out. Would hate to see another one released or traded.

Edit: This thread can't help but remind me of the words Bill whispered to Pettiti during camp last year: 'I will die before I let you fail.' I think he keeps the kid. Bill can never have too many projects - look no further than all the assistant coaches around him.

I agree. The number of 'projects is not the issue'.

There are no sacred cows for Parcells - he will trade or release anyone. Even the most valued of 'his guys' who are 'with him on Sunday', like Keyshawn, who Bill has sent packing twice now.

But Bill's 'investments' are something that in his 60's seem to mean more to him than ever. Listening to his pc yesterday, and hearing him mention he 'spent a lot of time' with Antonio Bryant, you could hear the regret that the investment, like with Quincy, did not pay off. The older a coach gets, the less time he has for 'projects', and the more valuable they become.

Petitti holds a special status....the initial interest, the enormous weight loss, battling thru that ankle injury last summer, trying to regain stamina as he lost the weight, the trial by fire starting all those games....all of this shared between player and coach and resulting in an 'added value' that no outsiders are going to recognize. The Rob Petittis of the league are a coach's immortality, and Tuna, more than any coach I have ever witnessed, feeds off lifetime relationships with players he has developed.

Suitors will look at Rob as a still developmental player who might start, might back up, and might not even make their final 53. I don't think his value to the 'outside' is anywhere near what it is to Bill, who nurtured, pushed, cajoled, conditioned, force-fed incredible amounts of info, technique, ideas, and advice to...at any age you just don't look at that kind of blood, sweat, and tears lightly. At age 65, it's your last efforts reflected in a player whose development means a whole lot more to you than outsiders realize.

Hey, if someone phones in a high pick for Rob, or the return specialist of Bill's dreams, or a sure-fire hedge against a Fergy injury...I suppose he'd have to go for it.

I suppose too, if a team were giving Rob a starting slot, Tuna would think a bit about not standing in his way. MAYBE ;)

I've been wrong a'plenty about Tuna, but I just don't see any owner or head coach attaching the 'value' to Rob that Bill Parcells must have.

BTW, welcome to the Zone!

All that being said This year's pet is keeping last year's pet off the field even though last year's pet is "a totally different person physically".

Couldn't this be nothing more than a Blade/Stewart/Tucker reclamation project that gets talked up and then cast aside when something better comes along?

Pettiti was no wheres near the starting lineup last year until Rogers decided to expose his.. um.. lack of man parts.

Listening to the last two PCs, you almost get the feeling Bill is happy FLo is out right now to get McQ more experience.

I think there is a difference here.

Or Bill has us completely bamboozled again, I don't know.

I was referring to Petiti not McQ.

I'm sitting in first class on the McQ Homer Express.

At first glance I was agreeing with most about needing all of our tackles. However, I'm thinking about the 2 tackles that will start. If one goes down, then McQ comes in.. If both go down, then Petitti or Fabini goes in.
Chances of both tackles going down are slim.

Unless Parcells is convinced that one of those players can play tackle and guard, it's useless taking up a roster spot we could use in another area.

Last year when Flo went down, we just didn't have any servicable 2's or 3's. We had one "great" tackle, and then a bunch of scrubs. This year, we have 1 really good tackle, a couple of solid tackles in Columbo and McQ, a savy vet in Fabini and a warm body in Petitti. Not to mention Kosier can play tackle as well. We only need 4 Tackles.

Thank you, LaTunaNostra. I appreciate it. I've been lurking (10+ visits a day... more like stalking) for three years, and finally decided to pony up with the odd post.

Three years of lurking?

You must have a lot of self-discipline not to have 'broken in' with something before.

That was a great post....and I am sure there will be many more, now that you've gotten your feet wet.

I agree with the first two but not the last. I think coaches on hard up teams would find him pretty valuable.

Welcome, Jame. And yes, LaTunaNostra is both insightful and has a clever way with words.

very unlikely we'd trade him (being a swing tackle he's spoken well of. Tuna has given ZERO indications he's down on him unlike many posters here.

Next up, if a starting OT (ie. Flo) went down and we traded him, now who is the backup on that side?

Some guy we pull off a practice squad somewhere?

Lets get real.
