Is Pollard getting franchised?

Tony has become our best running back this season and is pretty indispensable as long as our passing game is below average.

I think Zeke stays next season because we’d only save 5 million on the cap cutting him. Cutting him after next season is more realistic.

I’d franchise Tony next season and explore a multi year deal once Zeke is cut after next season. Is that too much resources dedicated to RB? I think losing Tony next season would cripple the offense badly.

Nope, he is not every down back, he is dynamic but he has speed and receiving ability, blocking is average, he was more a receiver in college. I also think the tread is running thin in next season or two I expect a McCaffrey type of breakdown where he misses time due to nagging issues. a decent contract I all for it but a franchise would dumb on so many levels.

It's an interesting question for sure. RB tag was $9.5MM last year may go up slightly for next season, but not an unreasonable amount for a 1 year deal.

I wouldn't be against it, but I think this team pretty seriously needs to consider a 3rd/4th round RB pick in the upcoming draft. Unless he signs a new deal for less money Zeke is gone either next year or the following for sure, and Pollard seems like a risky long term investment. He be what 28 or so after next year. Granted he doesn't have a ton of wear and tear for an RB that old we know how quick they can deteriorate. The time to start looking for the next RB or RB tandem for this team is now.

I think we’ll lose him in a bidding war this off-season unless he’s franchised. But paying him franchise tag may be too rich.

No way you can franchise Pollard IMO. We are going to pay two backs huge dollars to split the load? My thoughts all along have been the only way Pollard is here next year is if we sign him before he hits the market or if we cut Zeke and I don't think Zeke is getting cut after this year (maybe after next year when the cap hit is more reasonable). So let's hope we can sign him soon to a reasonable deal or I think he is gone.

Just can't see doing it. Other than Henry I don't know if anybody in the NFL uses a bellcow guy anymore. The run game is just to set up the pass anymore. Just invest in the OLine and make holes and let those middle round guys run free!

If a team is willing to pay him franchise back type money let them. Take the draft pick compensation and move on. As much as it sucks he is complimentary piece.

That didn’t work out so well with Joe Randle but worked great with Demarco and Pollard. I agree overall.

Nope. Restructure Zeke (which i'm sure he will do) so he gets paycut and you draft a dynamic back in the 4-5th round that is change of pace.
Zeke is overpaid sure but he's still good, consistently healthy and can pass block. He's also a rare breed...whats the last RB in the 21st century that has played 7-8 years with his team while getting significant reps and always getting 1200 yards from scrimmage?

He'll be lucky to get half the franchise tag.

Zeke is due 10.9 million in base salary next year. Absolutely no way can he stay on his current deal. Massive pay cut or he goes bye bye. He is so old now he should be sent packing anyway. Randall is a fine player but not worth the franchise tag. Offer him a 3 year 20 million dollar deal max. No matter what we do draft some O line in round 1 and draft an RB in round 4.

I think Zeke is forced to take a paycut, kind of like DLaw, if he refuses, he will be released. Number is just too high. Same with placing a tag on Pollard. Expect to see the RB room get revamped next yr, where you can find runners in the draft pretty easily.

Dunno if Zeke is Cut.
What's to say the team requests a pay cut from Zeke ? (not restructure) .?

i'd only tag Pollard if i believe he is Not /or too difficult as NFL draft-replaceable.

Also have to decide on the future on Zeke:
A) Do we demand a pay cut and reduced salary.. or cut completely ?
B) Or Keep Zeke as is, while replacing Pollard per NFL Draft ? (forget FA under Stephen)

- Definitely do not see us both franchising Pollard and keeping Zeke's current contract.

Could we franchise tag on Pollard, just as they decided with Schultz this year. ?
Although we're really discussing a a nickel change of pace type back, than a full time featured one
You don't heavily invest that much for a part time guy, imo.

And under Kellen, we flat out don't use in him in same sense as Packers' Aaron Jones or Chargers Austin Eckler
As a result, Pollard is vastly underdeveloped as a receiver out of backfield- Wasted skills under Kellen.

Pollard's not worth a FT for 10 carries a game.

The one team I want to see him on is the Miami Dolphins... the fastest offense in the league would get even faster.

Bijan Robinson...I wouldn't use a first-round pick on him unless we're picking 20-32...
