I don't like the argument that just because someone else who is not worthy is in the Hall of Fame, then so and so deserves to be in now. Especially when the person being compared played in a long ago era like K.C. Jones. The league is much different now. When I think of all time best NBA players, Horry just does not make the list.

You have a valid point, but it's still a good answer to the "he doesn't have the stats" argument, especially since that was a much more offensive era than now.

There is also a dearth of Hall-worthy players from the 1990 - 1995 draft, which will be his main competition until KG, Kobe, AI, Nash, Duncan, McGrady et. al. begin to retire.

1990 - Gary Payton

1991 - ?

1992 - Shaq (Robert Horry's draft class)

1993 - ?

1994 - Jason Kidd

1995 - Kevin Garnett and Rasheed Wallace (maybe)

There are other "big names" but I really don't think guys like Chris Webber or Grant Hill are going to garner serious Hall of Fame consideration even with their injuries. Though Alonzo Mourning might.

Duncan is a lock, Parker has to put some more solid years under his belt, and Manu will have to stay solid for about 5 more years. No sense in marginalizing the HOF.

With a Spurs win, Robert Horry will have won his seventh NBA championship (Rockets - 2, Lakers - 3, Spurs - 2). Horry will play next season, during which the Spurs will be the overwhelming favorite to repeat as champions (outside of a major overhaul by the Suns in which they end up with Nash, Kobe, and KG).

His career averages are 7.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.0 block per game. Very average, but on the other hand you have seven championships, a great nickname, and numerous big game winning shots/performances.

IMO, he's not a first-ballot lock, but he makes it. What do you think?

Come on - NOBODY with those career numbers gets in the HOF. It's nuts to even suggest it.

Being part of 7 championships is nice - and he has contributed - but for the most part he has been a role player, and role players do not get in.

Hell, I may be one of the few that remembers a guy named Billy Paultz. He was a huge slow white guy that played on like 14 different teams and went to the playoffs every single year for 17 years or so. My numbers may be off a little, but my point remains - he was a role player and didn't get credit for being a main cog in all those playoff teams. And that's how it should be.

Stever Kerr won several championships with the Bulls, and then won a couple I think with the Spurs - does that make him a HOFer even though he was a role player whose job was to get teh ball to Jordan or Duncan and nail an ocassional 3?

Role players do make the HoF on occasion. In football, Lynn Swann is in mainly because of the Steelers team and a couple of big plays in the Super Bowl. Other than that, he had a very average career.

And as I mentioned in another post, K.C. Jones is in the Basketball Hall of Fame with very similar numbers.

See my earlier post on K.C. Jones.

There's a difference between playoff appearances and championships. If we were talking about playoff appearances you would be right. But he only won one championship - that's not even close.

He has five championship rings, which is still less than seven. A handful of guys have six rings with that Bulls dynasty, but no one (outside of the Celtics) has more than six - except for Horry. And as I said before, if the Suns end up winning a championship in the near future Kerr may very well start to gain consideration.

Horry belongs in the Houston, LA, and SA ring of honor if those teams have one.....but he doesnt belong in the HOF....

Don't get me wrong, I think he is a great player, and does all the little things.....but those little things don't get stats attached to them and the HOF is about stats......his stats are below average.

But I would take him on my team any day of the week. Honestly, when he retires, I would love to see him become a Spurs Asst Coach. He has an extremely high basketball IQ

we can debate all we want about horry being in the hall of fame, its prob 50/50 wether he gets in or not. But make no mistake about it, manu ginobili WILL make the hall of fame. Dont forget the hall of fame is a BASKETBALL hall of fame, not nba hall of fame. Without his nba credentials manu would make it to the hall(3 time league mvp in europe, 1 euro league mvp and championship, and a gold medal in which he hit that sick game winner and was the leading scorer for argentine). No doubt in my mind manu will make it to the hall. i think tony will eventually have a good enough career to get in too

He's a career role player....no.

I don't see how that can even be debated.

If you are starting a team would you take Robert Horry over Alex English, Bernard King or Adrian Dantley.

I don't think any of these guys are in the HOF, I know none of them won a championship and they were all 10 times the player that Horry ever was.

The biggest shot Billy Paultz ever took was the one Hakeem gave him in a playoff game when Paultz was with Utah. Horry may not be a HOFer but he's sure as hell a lot closer than Billy freaking Whopper Paultz.

Alex English sounds like a British secret service agent.

Thanks, I thought he might have been, but I was too lazy to look it up at the time.

He was one sweet shooting son of a gun.
