Is Romo Responsible for our aggressive D?

On my Drive home to night it occured to me that maybe we have been playing conservative D due to our QB situation. I think BP didn't feel our offense could overcome getting to far behind but now that BP feels confident with Romo in he is more willing to be aggressive and take risks on the defensive side. Your Thoughts?

I think you bring up a great point.

With DB we felt uncomfortable falling behind cause that guy would just cough it up.

Romo can actually protect the ball and put points on the board when needed.

Ferguson made a comment that they cannot be more elaborate because they are not playing well enough in the base to do so.

Look at the front seven:

Spears, Ware, Ellis, Carp, Singleton, Ayodele, James all have less than two season playing inthe 3-4 in their entire lives. Many of them have little to no NFL XP period. The coaching staff was certainly spoon feeding them and I think the Colts forced them to loosen up a bit and the players performed admirably.

Now the GROZ geniuses are going to find fault but I dont see the problem with erring on the side of caution. Now that the defense has shown that they can handle more I see the maturation of the defense bearing fruit for years to come.

I remember the Chargers saying last year that they didnt become comfortable in the 3-4 until during the second year and it should come as no surprise that halfway of season 2 we start to come into our own as well.

I still gotta believe that the Romo factor makes the decision to be more aggressive and take more risks a little easier to make.

I would say Yes. Romo helps defense indirectly.

The Defense knows that it wont always be on them.

Bledsoe put ALOT on the defense.

Yes! He is also responsible for penicillin, electricity, flight, and Jesus being able to walk on water. ;)

I will give you the last three... but come on.... penicillin? hmmph!:lmao2:

the other part is romo doesn't put them in bad spots at their own 10 yd line

Don't forget he also invented the internet.

LOOK we were aggressive on sunday due to manning and manning only,,if we werent we would have gotten killed...we will go back to the boring D we have always had on thursday,,,wait and see, it was a one game wonder

I think the last two clock-killing drives allowed the defense to pin its ears back and attack the Colts offense.

I don't think we would have been able to do that with Drew Bledsoe because he doesn't pose the run-pass threat Romo does, and defenses have to respect that. Hence, drives are sustained and ultimately reach the end zone.

It's amazing what Romo has done for the Cowboys. I remember with Bledsoe a 3 and 10 meant a punt most of the times. Now, we actually can make a 3 and 10. I almost expect a 3rd down conversion now.

And that DEFINITELY helps the defense.

Those last two Cowboys scoring drives did wonders for the defense and allowed an attacking, aggressive defense to rest and come fresh the next series of downs.

which is a ball-control, run-based, short-to-intermediate passing attack designed to eat clock and wearout the opposing defense in the 4th qt..

..is the key to the defense being able to play aggressive defense.

Playing our offense the way it's designed, allowing our defense to rest and get off the field for longer periods of time, keeps them fresher with less snaps.

This allows the defense to be more aggressive when you need it to be.

It's all about balance.

Unfortunately, with Bledsoe playing, too often he was holding the ball, taking sacks, looking too often for the big play downfield and mis-firing at moving the chains and sustaining drives.

This puts the defense back on the field with little rest, often coming on the field trying to stop the other team from gaining momentum from just stopping our offense.

In the Colts game, if those two FG's by Vandy had been made, this game wouldn't have even been close in the 4th QT.

Because the offense was controlling the ball and the defense was fresh all game.

I think that what all of us have to not do with the Thanksgiving Game coming and TB..

..is to now assume this defense will repeat itself with another huge game.

TB is coming in with nothing to lose and a new QB that like Romo, we don't have much tape of to study him and this could cause some considerable problems with a possible letdown by the Cowboys after the Colts win.

I think we are in for a very different game on Thursday and BP and his staff haven't done really well with this short week preparation thing in the past.

Put down the cheese, fellas, back away from the table and let's keep our feet on the ground with this team.

They have proven over and over they are Jeckle and Hyde's when it comes to following up a win with a loss. We can easily be 6-5 on Thursday night and sitting for the 10 days after that computing all the ways we can back into the playoffs.

But I hope not.

Let's see what happens.

You are absolutely right. On one of their 4th quarter drives, the Cowboys ran fifteen plays and held the ball for more than 8 minutes 30 seconds. You do that and you just wear the opposing defense out.

The effect that Romo has on the D (and the rest of the team) is that they no longer feel like their efforts are all for naught. They now feel that they have a very good chance to win if they produce because that the offense will produce in turn. After the Jacksonville game with Bledsoe's exceedingly poor performance there the team had no confidence but now the confidence is back.

It was all on the defense in the 1st half.

How did the last 2 drives help us come out agressively in the first quarter?

Romo also helps because teams are now starting their drives within their own 20. Before Romo teams were starting their drives at or around the 50. It's a lot easier to be aggressive on your opponents 15 yard line, than on your 40 yard line.
