Is something wrong with this defensive scheme?

It worked great for marinelli in Chicago. But here, receivers seem to run wide open. RB's have plenty of holes to run through.

Dallas didnt do enough this offseason to improve the defensive front seven, IMO.

I believe it comes down to the Billy's and the Joe's, not the X's and the O's, in this case. The talent level has to improve or we will see more of the same.

This defense will live and die by how much pressure the front four get, simple as that. If Melton is the guy he was in 2012, If Crawford can live up the the hype, If Selvie can be the player from the first half last season, etc this could be a pretty good defense. If not the rest of the defense doesn't have a chance in you know what.

Last night, for a fleeting moment, I asked myself the same question the OP is asking. I did so because, even when it's scrubs versus scrubs at the end of the game--the same players who get recycled from training camp to training camp year after year--the Cowboys still struggled forcing so much as an incompletion.

But then I realized, I asked the same question about Wade Phillips and Rob Ryan and Monte Kiffin. It has to be the players.

It was not a great scheme in Chicago until he got Julius Peppers. Otherwise it was a bunch of "rushmen" who did not do all that great.

If the DL is not sound and very talented, good luck. It has worked in Indianapolis and Tampa Bay because of outstanding DL personnel.

It worked in Indianapolis? I mean they had that one super bowl run, but other then that I would never say they were a solid Defensive team. But you are correct, Freeney and Mathis are the reason they were remotely successful

There is no talent in the D-Line depth, at all, and that will kill you. This team is going to have to rely entirely on Crawford, Selvie, Melton, Spencer, and D-Law when he returns because they're not going to get much from anyone else. Any long term, or lingering, injures to those folks and you're in for a long season of defense that will look very similar to what you saw last year.

Yes. That means "worked". I do not know what you view as "working" but I would kill for what they had right now.

The defense basically won them that one Super Bowl when Sanders returned. Manning was repeatedly bullied by the Patriots in previous seasons.

Ya their defense was also repeatedly buried, so blame who you want. All I'm saying is they consistently had an average defense, and won one super bowl with arguably the greatest QB ever. Either way our defense still sucks.

I'd kill for Peyton, not their defense.

You realize the year the won the Super Bowl, it was all because of their defense, right? Manning was pretty bad in those playoffs.

Manning would help this team none with how bad this defense is. And he's not as mobile as Romo. Any break down in the line and he's toast.

Manning has one problem he can't get it done when it really counts. I will pass on him.

Billion dollar stadium and a $1 dollar store defense = The Jerry Jones Dallas Cowboys

LOL Reminds me of the old Funkadelic line "trying to put a $5 hat on a nickle head". It ain't gonna fit. But I'm just going to wait it out. I am tired of putting up boys against grown "A" men.

Why everybody hate Heath so much?

Tends to happen. The scrub players that really should not be on the team catch the wrath because they are easy targets and far more convenient to attack. Cory Proctor was a good recent example of the same syndrome.

That way you have more free time and energy to call out "haters" who dare say cross words about our overrated superstars.
