Is the Cowboys offense "overrated"?

The offense should be better with another year of same system and players in my opinion, and yes having our receivers and a decent offensive line along with javonte w killing it, yes it's elite.

Everything would point to that but it’s also difficult to repeat that level of success and to not have any key injuries to all of those weapons. That might be most difficult to repeat to not have any injuries to QB, RB and WR’s.

To clarify, I didn't mean mobility as a weapon didn't matter inside the 10. I meant that Prescott's decreased mobility doesn't matter as much in close. It's not like he's on crutches out there. He is no Josh Allen or prime John Elway but he is still very capable of seeing an opening and lumbering his way a few yards to a TD or a gain improving the odds for the next down.

Yes, I understand that top RZ teams typically have good rushing attacks. The Rams were 16 total yards better than the Cowboys on the season with the same number of carries and the same ypc. The Eagles and Bengals had less total yards. The Eagles on more carries while the Bengals had significantly less carries. Both with a lower ypc then the Rams and Cowboys.

Hurts and the tush push was definitely a factor in their rz success. We saw them run it 3 or 4 straight times to bull their way in from the ten. I consider them an outlier of sorts in this discussion.

A legitimate question might be, why did the Rams have more success in the rz with an immobile QB but essentially the same production from the rushing game as the Cowboys? Why did the Bengals have more success in the rz with a markedly worse rushing attack?

It seems like the crux of your argument is that the Cowboys very respectable rushing attack became pedestrian once it got to the rz which put all the pressure on the QB. I'm having trouble accepting that logic as nothing really changes for the defense with regards to defending the rush. The condensed field makes it easier to defend the pass but that doesn't translate to the rushing defense. Unless of course the defense commits to defending the rush at the expense of the pass defense.

The logic seems to suggest a probable reason for the dropoff in the running game in the rz is more likely to be the defense choosing to focus on that and taking their chances on Prescott beating them which because of the characteristics I pointed out earlier he struggles to do.

Stafford and Burrows are more confident and better at handling the short windows and making the quick decisions.
that’s a really good reply!

You may be right in that the defenses made a choice to shut down the run because in a pick your poison situation, they decided make Dak beat them.

I really appreciate the effort you put in on that.

We keep on hearing how the Cowboy offense is elite, but yet there were games last season where they truly underperformed:

14 points at Chicago-yes they lost Lamb early, but if I remember Chicago had a banged up secondary
20 points at Philly-they were shutout in the 2nd half where their defense only surrendered 3 points
17 at home against the Cardinals-there is zero excuse to lay an egg at home against one of the worst teams.
17 at home against the Chargers-Chargers dominated them

These are just a few examples. Everyone keeps on talking about the defense cause it was so bad, but the offense deserves some criticism as well. They must be more consistent or it won't matter how the defense performs.
The offense didn't let them down against inferior competition, but I have mentioned a bunch of times they seem to collapse under pressure - defensive pressure. The offense came to a halt when the offensive line could not protect Dak. That was their weak spot. If Steele and Guyton don't improve, it will be the same in 2026.

We have one hell of a fantasy football lineup on offense. Don't worry, offensive tackles don't score points in Fantasy Football, and your Defense won't make or break you. Our rep is secure.

I honestly don't see the Cowboys' offense as being truly "elite" if that's the term being used. I feel like "very good" are the words that describe them somewhat more accurately. "Elite" is for those who are qualified as candidates for Super Bowl glory, imho. The Cowboys' team hasn't fit that description in recent years and isn't ready to inspire such praise from knowledgeable fans in the here and now! Here's hoping that changes before breathing becomes a function of the past for many of us. ;)

You do realize I don't even have to take 10 seconds to counter some of that every team has an off game but you already said they lost Lamb in the Chicago game wasn't that the game that Williams had a long run and then fumble that would be in the red zone turned the ball over not the offense's fault on the whole individual fault One player lost one player fumbles They have a pretty good defense,

The Philly game do you wanna talk about all the drops that would've turned into easy points Let's see sanders fumbles inside to five turns the ball over that should have been a score and CD lamb might as well take that game off although he may have had some yards in that game but yeah he dropped some big passes in that game..

That's not overrated and they always struggle against the Cardinals..

I don't think there's any team that maintains all 17 games at a high level no matter how good their group are they always have a let down of some sort so let's just leave it at that To me it top 5 Offense if they're anywhere close to last year if you want to put them 7th that's fine you want to put them after that I don't care they are not overrated There are a lot of circumstances in those games where you look at the losses because the offense had to press The defense knew it because they knew their offense could score at will against our defense they had nothing to worry about they pinned their ears back and just take everything away that is just how the year went..
