Is the Doomsday D back? I think the answer is yes. Here are a few reasons why I think so. Firstly, our defence has conceded 62 points, while our offense has scored 71 points. That's a point differential of +9 through 4 games. That's a very good point differential. Then there's this:

For the first time since 1973, the Cowboys have held our first 4 opponents to 19 points or less. To put that in perspective. When we last achieved this feat, we had Roger Staubach at QB, we had one Super Bowl victory, and Richard Nixon was the US President. That's mental! It's very good. Additionally, this is during an era where offense is placed at a premium.

Furthermore, it's not just the point differential, but it's the way we are doing it. The takeaways we've been getting have been brilliant. The players we have are playing brilliantly. All in all, we have a fun defence to watch with how they can shut down offenses. So, yes, I think that the Doomsday D is back, and hopefully here to stay for a long time.

I am going to hold off saying it is back. But sure seems on the right track.

I am not as keen that a 9 point differential is good. I guess I am not sure what the averages are. Seems a lot less than last season. But maybe not since the defense was giving up more points as well.

I guess if an average, it would be great, but for total points. not so sure.

I think they are back.
They are sure enjoyable to watch.
Crazy thing is, they have room for improvement.
If we can find a way to tighten up our run defense, now that would be downright scary !

Well, mind you, this is through 4 games. Then again, through 4 games last year, we had the following scores:

Dallas 29 Tampa Bay 31
Dallas 20 LA Chargers 17
Philadelphia 21 Dallas 41
Carolina 28 Dallas 36

So, for the first 4 games last year, we conceded 97 points compared to 126. So yes, the point differential was a bit better at +29, however, we conceded more points through 4 games. This year, the defence has been excellent by virtue of conceding less than 20 points each game. Especially in the modern NFL, that's a brilliant defence.

Uh hell no. It is early and this defense still needs to prove it is championship caliber when it matters. Right now they are young and improving and have flashed.

I think the run defense at times looks really bad and that's a concern. The defense has been really good at rushing the QB and the secondary has held up, but if we can't stop the run, it's going to catch up to us and we are going to lose games.

I agree, which is where the need for a NT comes in. I think if we can get that, then this will become Doomsday III.

I agree with you, I'm not going to say they are Doomsday level but they are pretty darn close. We shore up the run game and we're there. This defense is special. And as the OP.stated they have held teams to fewest points since 73. You have to take into account who we played and the era we're playing in. Tampa Bay has Tom Brady. So holding him to under 20 is impressive. Bengals are good and can score points, Giants and Washington are meh offensively but when you take on account all the rule changes to help the offense since 73. That's some good work by Parsons and company. These guys are special and getting better each week. Very fun and exciting. I'm loving it.
