Is the new OT rule is postseason only?

so that new rule that the first team with possession cant win on a FG is only post season right?

I believe so.

Unlike regular-season overtime rules that have been in place for years, both teams could have the chance to score in overtime, even if the first team with the ball kicks a field goal. Normally, the team to score first, regardless of how, wins.

If a field goal is made on the first possession of overtime, the other team gains possession. If that team scores a touchdown, game over. If it kicks a field goal to tie, then the next team to score wins. The only way the game ends on the first possession is if that team scores a touchdown or if the defense forces a safety or returns a turnover for a score.

So if Team A kicks a fg......then Team B kicks a fg....what happens then? Is it then sudden death? A fg can win it?

why can't the idiots get it right, each team should have a position--if receiving team in OT scores, they kick off

funny calling people idiots when you use the word position instead of possession

too funny

also you are wrong, if receiving team in OT scores a TD it is over, it is only a fg that would keep it going

p.s. I am pretty sure

Because it doesn't create the urgency to win in regulation. The NFL doesn't want long six overtime games like college football, and I agree with them.

I forget what happens then,

weird thing is if team A gets a fg and team B is moving the ball and doesnt convert on 3rd down, they will obviously go for it on 4th down no matter where they are - a playoff game can actually end on a referees spot. How is that gonna fly if a team runs on 4th and 1 and there is a controversial spotting of the ball, even after replay?

bet there will be talk of changing the rule again if that happens

That is how I understand it.

If yesterday were a playoff game then the Cowboys still would have won with their FG. It was the 2nd position of OT

I say make it like College, but only in the play-offs. I don't care how long the game is (play offs only) as long as it's a fair ending. I watched a 5 hour World Series game, and didn't complain about it, and I hate baseball.

Just leave it as sudden death. Kicking is part of the game. If they don't want a team winning by a FG get rid of FG. Special teams are part of the game.

OK, wait, what if the first posession team fails to get any points and the second team gets a fg, is it game over?

Yes, that is correct.

Already answered in this post:

If a field goal is made on the first possession of overtime, the other team gains possession. If that team scores a touchdown, game over. If it kicks a field goal to tie, then the next team to score wins.

Why so? Both teams got a chance to score in that scenario.

Both teams have a chance to score. One team just has to play defense first.

I actually like the college overtime rules...but that's just me. It's fair and exciting, not sure what's wrong with that.

yes but if the skins fg was good the game would have continued

That is an unbelievably stupid rule.

what is really stupid to me is to have one way to play OT for the regular season and another for the playoffs

how does that make sense
