I can not believe that Jerry would not interview Rivera. I just have a very difficult time believing that a Coordinater, the quality of a Ron Rivera, would not be considered. I agree with those who say that we are basically a week away from being in position to openly interview. It would be stupid not to interview him at this point. I wonder if there have been any talks during the open week of the Super Bowl? I know that it is within the rules to interview at this time but I heard Rivera say publically that he would not be accepting interviews at this time.
As for the whole Garrett thing, well, you know this kinda reminds me of the Quincy Carter situation. Not to say that Garrett will end up like Quincy. Just that we took Quincy earlier then we should have because we believed he would turn into the next great Dallas QB. We never made any serious attempt, until we were really too far down the line, to bring in any serious compatition (Draft or FA). Basically, we gambled everything and lost. I believe Garrett to be a fine young coach and Lord knows everybody always beleive he would eventually end up being a coach in the NFL but this is just a bit too reminisant of that situation for me. I see no reason not to bring in a good coaching staff in Dallas. You look back to the times when Dallas has been succesful and you see names like Jimmy Johnson, Norv Turner, Dave Wannstedt, Butch Davis, Dave Campo and then you have Tom Landry, Dan Reeves, Mike Ditka, Gene Stallings, Dick Nolan, John Makovic and Ernie Stautner. Those were great coaching staffs. You can argue the degrees of success as head coaches but collectively, they were filled with talent. Johnson was never affraid to bring in the best possible talent, be it coaching or players. Tom Landry turned out more great Coaches and Players then perhpas anybody other then Paul Brown. Even more then Walsh IMO. I just believe that it's a mistake to look at Rivera or anybody else, for that matter, as tabo because of Garrett.
