Whoever the new HC wants, not Jerry. Maybe Rivera will take a coordinator position like Jim Schwartz did.
If we could go back in time and bring Teague, Woodson and Lett here...No matter how good the offense gets, this team isn't winning anything without a legit, elite defense. Two things have to happen:
1) Franchise needs to find an innovative new aged Defensive Coordinator. Move away from the old age, bend but don't break defense that limits the big plays, but rather move towards more of an attacking defense that keeps offenses off-balanced.
2) This new DC needs to have an eye for talent. Find players that fit his scheme. Convince the front office to target his type of players and move away from drafting all world athletes that possess zero football instincts.
Is there any coordinator out there to make this defense elite?
We you be opposed to hiring him as HC? Where ever he has been, his defense has always been high-level.Why would Rivera come here? Pretty sure his first priority is finding another head coaching job. There are some rethreads out there......Jeff Fisher, Bob Ryan, Marvin Lewis. You can also look at teams making head coaching changes.
Sure. Ron Rivera. No matter how good the offense gets, this team isn't winning anything without a legit, elite defense. Two things have to happen:

How do we know though? My fear is Jerry will think Richard is that DC. He is not.
No. I dont want to hire a great DC that has proven to be a mediocre HC to be a HC again. We already did that with WadeWe you be opposed to hiring him as HC? Where ever he has been, his defense has always been high-level.
I would take Rex in a heartbeat, yes. Rob would be fine as a positional coach.Rivera would be my first choice...but what about Rex Ryan??? Ryan was a horrible head coach but good to great defensive coordinator...would be interesting as long as he doesnt bring the bum Rob Ryan with him
True. Plus, the defenses under Parcells (2003 - 2006) weren't that consistent or great:When Parcels went from a 4-3 to a 3-4, it set the franchise back for years, and when they went back to the 4-3, it set them back another 10 years. They still have not recovered from it, as the defense sucked for years and years, even before Parcels.
We have to get scouts that are better at seeking out talent in Home Depot and Lowe's possibly Walmart and TargetNo matter how good the offense gets, this team isn't winning anything without a legit, elite defense. Two things have to happen:

Didn't we try that once with Rob?I would take Rex in a heartbeat, yes. Rob would be fine as a positional coach.
Even Marvin Lewis as DCRivera would be my first choice...but what about Rex Ryan??? Ryan was a horrible head coach but good to great defensive coordinator...would be interesting as long as he doesnt bring the bum Rob Ryan with him
Are you ready to waste several years swapping players to fit a 3-4 scheme ? There is a shortage of players to fit the 3-4 scheme as it is. That was the reason for changing to the 4-3. A modern 4-3 can do well if they hire a coach with a modern scheme and the DL that will make it effective. Marinelli has been the number one reason why the defense has failed year after year and firing him would be the first step in the right direction. There’s two ways to make this an elite defense:
1) Finally get stud DT and NT and stop using filler from 3rd and 6th round projects.
2) Change to a 3-4 that is easier to hide your blitzes and assignments.
There’s not any 4-3 teams I know of that just use filler on the inside of their defense and still have success.
49ers are the best defense in the league because they’ve gone all out on beefing up the DL. When Maliek Collins is your best interior player you’ve got issues.
