I keep hearing people say we should move up for this player or that player, and I have a hard time believing that it makes much sense to trade up for a player in the first two rounds.
I could maybe see giving up a 4th round pick or later to move up a few spots. But I would have a hard time giving up any of our picks in the top 3 rounds for a player. I just don’t think it’s worth giving up another player.
I guess moving up is an option if you have moved down already and want to move back up, but I’m hard pressed to see many players worth giving up a 2nd or 3rd to move up for that player.
The biggest issue with trading up is that it eliminates the possibility that the target players falls to them without trading up.
Having said that, the Cowboy draft best when a player that they're sold on is the player they draft.
- Tyron and Zack Martin were the preferred picks by everyone in the organization.
- Taco was definitely NOT on a consensus pick within the organization.
It's hard to define "sold on" because they appeared to be sold on Dak despite having him rated as a 4th round pick. They met with him more than any other player pre-draft since Jerry has owned the team.
