Is There Any Way McCarthy Doesn't go QB First Round?

Think about it.

You have four extra draft picks. You can do a lot of damage with those picks.

And it's quite possibly your last year here if Dakota doesn't win it for you.

Do you want to bank on a quarterback with no real awareness or urgency to win big games?

Sure, he can stroll through a few games against bad teams. But it's like the boyfriend you tell your daughter to avoid because he lacks ambition. To me, that's Dakota. He's just kinda there.

Some think Matt Corrall drops to 20..

Any way you make something happen to get him?

Some have him going to the Steelers, but the Cowboys also brought him in.

Which means: they are thinking about using a high pick at quarterback.. something they haven't done recently.

Dakota showed why he's a fourth round pick in the playoffs.

If you think anything otherwise, you weren't watching for the things you need in a quarterback to win those big games. Like a sense of urgency to win!

I sense that despite his demeanor McCarthy has that urgency while Dak doesn't.. And I think, at least I hope, Dallas realizes it's time to draft a quarterback in the 1st and surprises those who believe we've already made up our minds to hang our hats on Dakota.

I believe McCarthy knows he'd be wise to move on here, and we'll see that reflected in how he drafts.

LOL! MM will have about as much input on this draft as you and I do. After Jethro and spawn jump out of the clown car, they will spend the three days doing their best to prop up up the annual 40 million dollar mistake.

Yeah, but we pick at 24... We have a good shot at having first pick at the all the QBs in this class.

I just don't see moving forward with Dak for too long.. at least I'm hoping..

So, we don't have the best class this year..

Still, none of these guys could be better than Dak?

I'd go with Carson Strong or Matt Carroll.

Then fill our needs via the rest of the draft.

Not sure how long I can hang on watching Dak. I've already stopped watching every game. And that hasn't happened since I've been a fan.

Maybe they take flyer on Zappe with one of the 5ths

Maybe.. I can also see them using a 2nd or 3rd on QB.

I realize, there's probably a good chance QB isn't the first pick. But if they like a guy like, say, Carson Strong, then I wouldn't be upset about it.

At least they'd be trying..

If I"m HC, I'm screaming Carson Strong...

LOL, never going to happen.

You guys think MM will sell the team or relocate the cowboys? Times are tough. Fans are mad. I’m thinking he might.

If I were MM, I'd tell Jerry the truth.

Like, look, man, you haven't won a Superbowl in over 20 years.

And then there's this other thing you haven't done in over over 30 years now: and that's draft a QB in the 1st round.

And then that definition of insanity...Note I'm not going to cite Einstein...

Gotta love the relatively eager newbies.

You know what I really love?

People who assume..

I've been around since way back. Since when I was literally the first person who thought Romo was a decent player.

I've learned one thing. People on here who pretend to know the most, generally don't know all that much.

Not sure how long you've been around. But I first came here back when this place was called Mazevo, or something, and doomsday101 and a few others and I migrated from an old Austin360 site... it was like twitter, almost. .You could only write so many characters.

Continue assuming on.

Cowboys fans think drafting a QB early is a dumb idea, because they've been conditioned to think that.

I've fallen victim myself to this kind of conditioning, as a fan. But seriously, we deserve better.

Some have Carson Strong going #1 overall. Some have him falling to the 3rd round.

I can't call it.

But to me, he seems the most NFL ready.

I just know we need another quarterback.

And until we fix that, who we draft when won't matter much.

Dak is what he is.. best of the bums.. and bums generally don't win Super Bowls, Trent Dilfer aside.

You think one of these awful rookies will change that? This post is bonkers

McCarthy doesn’t have that much clout. Jerry would never allow it. Big Mike is lucky to be in the war room.

What do you mean he doesn't have that much clout?

Only a beta male coach would want to just not his head and roll the dice on a quarterback like Dak.

He's talented, to some degree. I'm not saying Dak sucks, like he's the worst.

But he's just not a championship quarterback.

That's why I take my chances, if it presents itself, say, if a guy like Carson Strong did happen to fall.

I think we actually have more of a chance of drafting a QB than many think.

Jerry is an old drunk. But he has two eyes.

And if he's simply not going to listen to his head coach's input, like at all, then he's an absolute fool.

No way he believes in his heart of hearts that Dakota Prescott can win it all for him.

All he has to do is go back and compare right now to the days of Aikman and remember what Aikman's drive to win was really like.

Dak does not have that same clutch, drive, will to win, whatever you want to call, it's not there.

So, give me a guy like Carson Strong? Somehow in this draft?

I also like Matt Corrall, if he's there in the 2nd.

People who say this class is weak at QB really haven't looked hard at Strong, imo.

Many think Malik Willis is the best QB, but I don't see that. I think it's Strong.

There are reasons to question whether Dak is a championship quarterback but Carson Strong would be lucky to be as good as 2nd year Dak. Strong has knee issues and is not athletic. I will admit Dak has to play much better this season or the Cowboys will at least start looking at quarterbacks in next year’s draft. MM will be fired if Dak fails this season.

Interesting that you haven't mentioned Ridder or Willis. Why not?
