Is there any way Zimmer is back next year?

I get what you're saying. I'm talking about being able to give a coordinator more responsibility, which I don't think Parcells is capable of doing. I'm not talking about being a rogue coordinator. There a lot of teams that the head coach has relinquished play calling duties on one side of the ball or the other for the betterment of the team. ie: the Eagles who've started thrashing people since Morningwig (sp) took over the offensive play calling for whatever reason. I still contend Parcells has his hands in too much instead of just enough.

Well we disagree there I think all HC are responsible for their players and assistant coaches this is why they are the HC and not an assistant themselfs. But again I think the HC should always say who is on his staff. Jerry did this before and it does not work having a HC who does not even have the say so of who is on his staff and if the HC did not hire me then I don't need to go through him I deal with Jerry as I see fit and that will happen and did happen before.

JJ knows how much has been invested in this defense, both in high draft picks and FA contracts. He fully expected it to be a dominant unit this year, a unit that would carry the team. he is not getting him money's worth which means Zimmer is gone.

I agree! Jerry stated in his press conference he felt like they had the talent to be a good defense. If I was Zimmer I would be sending that resume out as soon as possible, the writing is on the wall.

Dude, we're doing circles here. I'm not talking about a HC not being responsible for his assistants I'm talking about a HC who allows his assistants the lattitude to make some play calls, to trust them a little bit. Ala Jimmy Johnson.

My general statement is Jerruh give Parcells the ultimatum to find another D-Coordinator he can trust and let him at it. Not pick one for him who has his own set of rules but does have some responsibility for the D.

What is the point in having coordinators anyway?

Zimmer back next year? :puke:

Seriously. The guy sucks at being a D. Coordinator.

For all those people saying that he's just a puppet to Parcells, he should still go, it's not like he adds ANYTHING too this defense.

Please, please please get a good defensive coordinator.

And please get a HC that has some fire (and I don't mean heartburn).

If only this was Zimmer's doing. It's not his defense. He doesn't have say-so with many tactical decisions come game day. I understand there was a problem pertaining to the pass rush prior to Bill's arrival, but blaming Mike Zimmer might be a really easy and convenient way of sidestepping some really troublesome issues with regards to personnel.

That, and we might take a harder look at the head coach.

Odds are Zimmer is gone after the season. And while I am no fan of the results delivered under his watch, he looks a lot like a scapegoat.

If he leaves it'll be because some college wants to hire him, I doubt Jerry would embarass him like that. Wait, (flashes back to the legendary Tom Landry leaving). Yeah he'll fire his sorry arse.

IMHO, no way. And for all those out there that say Parcells shouldn't come back that this Defense is not on Zimmer, I don't believe Zimmer has done enough pre-Parcells to warrant him staying around.

My fix:

Jones is the Owner/GM and it's time for him to be a good one by doing the following:

At the end of the season go to Parcells and lay it out. You're welcome back next season, with two stips 1. We're bringing in an aggresive 3-4 D-Coordinator and he's not a puppet it's his show on D. 2. We're bringing in an aggresive O-Coordinator same as above.
If we did that I'd be absolutely thrilled.

I'd love to have Ron Rivera or Rex Ryan here.

Zimmer's contract expires after this season. All we have to do is NOT re-sign him.

adios!

Folks, post season comes and Jerry sits down with Bill to take stock for the offseason. They both are going to be unhappy with how things went, particularly for the defense. If Jerry has decided Bill must go, he will say so....but I don't think he will. Jerry WILL say that Bill needs to come up with something (someone) new for the defense.

Zimmer will go....and Bill will stay.

It's Parcells' defense.

So I have to think, if Parcells is back, so will Zimmer.

- Mike G.

That's my thinking as well. Unless Parcells is ready to completely hand the defense to someone else, Zimmer will be back.

I say Zimmer only has as much control as Big Bill gives him. Kinda like what Jerry was doing during the Switzer, Gailey, Campo years. Coaches in name only. Zimmer is a perfect scapgoat. But at some point, Big Bill must be held responsible. Wonder how much patience Jerry has left?

I think the better knock on Zimmer is that he doesn't have the experience to ADD to the defense. Getting an experienced 3-4 coordinator would give Bill some relief of carrying too much of the defense and allow him to focus on the overall job.

Romeo Crennel would be a could guy to have. I'm hoping he'll get canned in Cleveland and is at least considered here. That's assuming he and Parcells get along and Crennel doesn't take another head coaching job.

Any experienced and good 3-4 DC would be great; Crennel is just one good candidate.

That's a great call. Zimmer is running Parcells' system, because he has no background. Only this year Parcells described him as "starting" to see what could be done, with the versatility. Coordinators are a huge part of the team and the new ideas that can be brought, which is one reason the offense is so much better, because there's an infusion of new ideas. Zimmer has nothing to offer, there. Crennel in 07, baby!

Well Hostile says he's gone. Too bad for him and his family but we just need some changes.

Crennel's name came up on ESPN and I thought he'd be a good candidate.
