I believe this is the deepest team we’ve had in a long time.

We have a ton of depth, that can start any given Sunday.

It’s hilarious though. Read the threads in the preseason and after week 1. People talked about this team like they were the Dave Campo / Clint Stoerner teams.

Also funny how they’ve overcame Collins, Cooper and Gregory.

I ask this because it appears our hopes have elevated to its highest level this era.

We have had some #1 seeds like in 2007 and 2016. But I don’t recall this type of vibe as we are having now with these lofty expectations .

Back then like in 2007 it was Romo’s first full season and Phillips debut coaching here. And in 2016 was Prescotts rookie year.

This year feels different. McCarthy is in his 3rd season here and Prescott in his 7th season. And we finally have a legit defense in what appears to have been our biggest weakness throughout this era when it was our offenses which carried us to much of what success we had.

Big difference in comparison though is we will not likely be a #1 seed. And probably be a Wild Card needing to win all of our playoff games on the road. How much effect does this have. And what impact should this have on our lofty expectations.

And if we don’t have any more success by reaching our first championship game this era with what many see as our most talented team , will this be the most disappointing season?

I think what matters is how they finish, not how dominant they look in the regular season. It will all be for nothing if they screw it up again and go one and done.

It's hard to say. I got 2007 and 2014 in that order. This season isn't done yet. By the end I'll have a better idea where this team fits in. At the very least it's 3rd. If Dallas wins out, I'm pretty sure it will be 1st.

Don't tell them they're the most talented or else they will sit on their laurels.

We can't win on talent alone. You have to work just as hard as if you didn't have that talent cause that's what the guys without talent have to do.

Coughlin's law # last on list...never listen to Coughlin because he's full of **it!

Biggest difference is we have a legit defense

It always feels this way in the moment.

I feel like we just had this same thread last year.

Identify some key benchmarks that are vital to post season success that we have truly not achieved since our last super bowl, and see if we’ve fixed them this year.

Have we eliminated slow starts? Reduced penalties? Got strong interior DL play?

To me this team is largely still the same as it was last year.

Last years team had no run game and was being beat on by the cover 2. They started off on fire, but by December the flaws were blatantly obvious.

This year we are in December and playing well. I have a lot more confidence this time around.

what made 2007 so different is how many of the players there had career years. Think about it; that is why we thought that team was so good. Ellis; Ware nearly; Ratliff; TO pretty close; you look at the secondary and Ken Hamlin's best season; the O line was arguably the best it was until it was rebuilt; Gurode and Bigg Davis and the Hotel all had maybe their best seasons here. Witten was at the top of his game; MB3 was peaking
Looking at the 2007 Pro Bowl roster there were so many Dallas players on it. Many of them never made it back to a pro bowl afterwards.

I understand . Id put those seasons up there as well.

But Im getting a vibe with such expectations this year that this could be greatest disappointment with most talented team. Is that justified . I’m trying to play devils advocate here weighing in both sides.

At the end of the 2007 regular season, an argument can be made that the Dallas Cowboys were the second greatest football team on Earth, trumped only by the record setting 16-0 Pats (whom Dallas played tough in the regular season). You set the record for pro bowl players on one team with 13, and won a division that had no losing teams.

If this team played that one, I don’t know if 2022 wins.

It is funny that we didn’t go all in on FA, and lost those three, but the FA’s we did sign have all contributed and helped shape this team. Turpin, Barr, Maher, Peters, and Dante Fowler. Not one of them a bum. And now with Washington finally to get a chance. Very strategic and I applaud the coaches for getting something out of all of them.

Of course. So, how would you rank the disappointment up against other talented teams this era which fizzled out in playoffs?

I was most disappointed with the 2007 team. I hadn't become a cynic yet. If this team falls flat I'd be disappointed but not surprised.
So, you wouldn’t rank this as most talented team that flopped in playoffs this era ?

That’s my objective in this thread to measure what the disappointment level would be .

I guess you'd be right. 2007 was a massive disappointment. But someone, somewhere is going to be greatly disappointed. We don't get these opportunities that often anymore. Right now, I'm not even thinking about losing. Last year, my expectations were gone long before the end of the season.

I'd say my boy Prescott has a very average set of weapons around him and of course they play with a bad QB.

Gotta be up there with the Romo led 13-3 team.
True.
I think he would've liked to have had that team later in his career instead if his 1st full year a starter.
He was so much better overall in 2014 mentally and mechanically
