Is this the beginning of the end for Jason Garrett?

If Jason Garrett does not figure out that "establishing" the run game does not mean run for 2 yards on 1st down, then pass the remainder of the drive; this team will end up just like last year.

4 running plays after the 1st quarter against Green Bay??? Zero runs from the I-formation??? I do not know what gets into Garrett's head, but the way to win in December (with very few exceptions) means run the ball, control the clock and keep your defense off the field.

I said that beating Philly the way we did may have doomed this team because Garrett won without establishing the run. Now he thinks he can do it against everyone. I tell you now, this team will be EMBARRASSED in New Orleans if he tries that mess. :banghead:

I loved the game plan at Philly. Am I wrong in thinking that we did more short throws than we have in a long time?

The thing that drives me nuts is we can't seem to stick with the short game or be consistently successful with it.

I love it when we dink and dunk and just move the ball forward, even if its only a yard or two.

Moving forward avoids a sack, consumes time off the clock, can frustrate a defense, keeps the defense off the field, cause the defense to creep up and open up the long game.

Why can't we utilize the dink and dunk, why doesn't Romo always have an outlet receiver?

I don't know who's at fault, but something seems screwy with our offense.

We start too slow as well and I think it gives other teams confidence as we *****foot around. We need to get mean, attack more, be efficient, establish a presence and intimidate.

I've had a sense of dread all week thinking about this game that the Boys are going to lose. Hope my gut is dead wrong.

This is interesting insight you have, I wonder why there aren't 10 other threads on this very subject.

I think part of the problem is scheme and that part of the problem is personnel.I think Dallas has done a decent job running off the edge but a bad job running between tackles.I believe that the team has 23 negative rushes,12 of those negative rushes are between the tackles.I believe that they have 230 rushing attempts,so that means that 10% of the rushes have lost yardage. On the other end of the spectrum are the runs for more than 10 yards.I believe that they have had 41 rushes of greater that 10 yards, that accounts for another 18 percent of the attempts. When it comes to converting a 3rd or 4th and less than 2 to go for another 1st or a touchdown here are the numbers. If running left they convert 67% of the rushes which is 12th in the league. If running right they convert 100% of the rushes which is tied for 1st in the league. If running up the middle they convert 60% of the rushes which is 20th in the league. There are 4 teams with a 60% conversion rate with runs up the middle, for some reason Buffalo is at 16 while Dallas is at 20.There needs to be a little more research done to see how many attempts there were to go along with the percentage numbers. That 100% conversion rate to the right looks good, but it may not be what it seems either.

If Wade does go (I personally don't think he will) maybe the solution to all this is promote Garrett to HC and allow someone else as OC to call the plays and come up with gameplans. Let Garrett scheme and invent and propose and leave the play-by-play duties to someone else. Of course, that would mean Wade wouldn't be in charge of our defense any longer, so factor that in...

Garrett = bad

Player execution = worse

The players simply are not executing. About the only thing Romo has been consistent of lately is throwing the high pass. If he could actually deliver the ball where it needs to be this would be a different game today. Not saying Garrett is making all the right calls, but the players need to accept part of the blame as well as step up and execute the plays called.

Unfortunately, no one will make an offer to Garrett. Jerry will have to fire him. Which I think is very likely after today.

I don't hate Garrett and don't yet know he should be fired. I'll wait until after the year to think about that.

My complaint, however, is that I feel like he lacks command as a play caller. It's as if he has no conviction -- doesn't really know what he wants to be or what he wants this team to be. He also panics easily.

I thought he called a great game against Philly. He had some things working against him out of his control, like penalties. But he's followed that up with two highly questionably called games IMO.

now he's running too much. balance garrett

how is it running too much when they're picking up 5 and 8 yards a carry? don't blame garret because MB3 doesn't try to hold onto the ball.

this whole team is overrated
By whom? I don't read or hear anyone over rated any part of this team any more. Most media types didn't see this as a playoff team when the season started.

Not sure when this thread started with the Commanders game today, but after watching today's game, I'm convinced Garrett's success is predicated on luck. He was told to establish the run today, so he did, and it worked all the way down the field until Barber fumbled.

Then for the rest of the first, second, third, and most of the fourth period, I couldn't figure out what the offensive scheme was.

I can't believe that Romo has to throw into coverage every play. I can't believe the o-line has to mass protect on every play, allowing three defenders to converge on the intended receiver. Where were our talented tight end? They were blocking of course. If Witten is taken out of the game because he has to block to cover Adams, or Free, then the offense is doomed, unless a wide receiver can get separation.

I can't believe Austin can't get separation on a slant pattern. Where is Crayton in a slant as the third receiver? Where are the screen plays to Felix or Marion to slow down the blitz?

The defense played great all day, but the only turnover came wtih minutes left to play? The great pass rush that was supposed to result in a lot of turnovers, yet the P.I. was the result of a tipped pass? Newman and Jenkins were never in the right place to get an interception.

Late in the third quarter, a stat was flashed across the scree that said no WR had caught a pass yet? What the heck was that? Garret, can't you call a slant across the middle? Every other game I watched today had WRs catching passes.

The defense played very well today. The offense layed another egg, and unless somebody realizes why in a hurry, this season is over, starting in December.
