I shudder to think what will happen to this defense with their 2 best linebackers, Lee and Durant, out.

where are all the excuse makers that claimed the turnovers we were getting mattered more than all the yards and points and first downs we were giving up?

I mean, turnovers do make up for a lot. But it has to be noticed that when they've faced top-tier QBs like Manning and Brees the turnovers don't occur at all. That tells me this defense is great at forcing turnovers from average NFL players but the elite passers have this defense all figured out.

At least this is a simpler defense that allows guys to come in off the street and play in.

lol. That's the only silver lining on this I suppose.

This defense is well on its way to be the worst defense in franchise history.

With Ware still clearly hobbled and now Lee out once again it's only going to get much, much, much worse.

One thing I noticed on Sunday - as in regards to turnovers. It's great that the coaches teach them to strip the ball, but when you have a defender reaching in to strip the ball - by himself instead of putting the tightend on the ground, then said tightend churns along for another 1st down and tons of extra yardage ! Put the frickin guy down ! Tackle his *** first. Pissed me off so many times to see them all trying to strip the ball instead of first things first - make the tackle !!

I shutter to think that you didn't name Carter in your list of the Cowboy's best two linebackers and think that best that I can tell -- the coaching staff feels the same way.

Mark Ingram has played in 3 games this season rushing for 50 yards combined in them. Against Bruce Carter last week he rushed for 145 yards.

That tells you everything you need to know about how screwed we are when we have to play Bruce Carter at middle linebacker.

I thought it might have something to do with all those street free agents pretending to play DL.

Just few minutes ago on Fox Football Daily they were talking about our poor defense. Jay Glazer said hiring MK was a wrong decision and that the game passed him by…Lynch tried to answer and explain that this is not true and he is still a great DC.
Ready for the rest?

Ok..Glazer replied right away "I've heard from players ..we don't get him..sometimes we don't know what the heck he is saying"

If this is true…we are in deeeeeep trouble…

Stats can't even begin to describe the dis-functionality of this group. But, I guess they gotta place 'suckage' in one category or the other.

Worse defense in my 37 years of watching the Cowboys. Hands. Down.

yep, even on 3rd and 14, I say to myself, they will catch an open ball 16 yards downfield for a first down, I have no faith in the D stopping anyone

I don't mean this to be a hyperbolic "let's all get angry on Monday" post, I mean this to be completely cold and honest. Is this legitimately the worst defense the Dallas Cowboys have ever fielded in their history? Certainly it has a lot of competition. The 2010 Dallas Cowboys defense is probobly the gold standard of bad defense. Last year's 2012 MASH unit defense also makes a strong argument. So how could this defense really be worse?

The 2013 Dallas Cowboys are the only defense in the history of the NFL to surrender four 400-yard passing performances in a season, and the season isn't even over! Two weeks ago they set the record for most yards given up by a defense at 623 against the Lions only to break their own record by allowing 625 to the Saints. They are the first defense in the NFL to give up 40 first-downs in a game.

Some might argue that those stats are just numbers and that the team isn't quitting like Mike Jenkins famously did against Green Bay in 2010. Well I'd like to bring in Exhibit A - Bruce Carter. Bruce Carter gave up last night every bit as much as Jenkins did. If you watch that 4th quarter Carter was jogging around trying to find every reason not to be involved in a tackle. When an offensive lineman got anywhere between him and a ball-carrier he just extended his arms and walked into him "well, guess you blocked me! oops! my bad!" It looked like a walk-through where the 2nd team defense lets the offensive linemen practice going where they are supposed to. It's bad enough when a cornerback doesn't want to tackle, but when your guy playing middle linebacker is thinking about how he doesn't want to be sore so he can enjoy the bye week instead of tackling, that is showing a lot of give-up from the team. Also, Jason Hatcher's statement yesterday that the reason he doesn't want to play is because he's about to be a free agent and doesn't want to put bad film out there says a lot about how these players have given up on this team.

So is this the worst defense in Cowboys history?

How about one of the worst defenses in NFL history ???

Yep. Worst ever.

But herein lies some of the blame:

NFL Rank Stat
T-4th No. of punts
19th 1st downs
21st Yards / rush
24th Time of Poss
T-28th 3rd down conversions
28th Rushing / game
31st Rush attempts

You arent giving them enough credit. This is the worst defense in NFL history. No team, not the expansion Bucs or Saints gave up 40 first downs before last night. That is just the tip of the ice berg.

Opie and Grandpa have made us the laughing stock of the league.............................................its just embarrassing at this point.

They could let us put 15 guys on d and we'd still give up at least 400 yards every game! This has to be one of the worst defenses in the nfl ever!
