Is TMAC Capable Of Carrying the Team if CD Goes Down?

In answer to the OP question, “Is TMAC capable of carrying the team if Cedee goes down?” The short answer is NO.

The long answer is few rookie WRs in the NFL - even first rounders - are instant stars. Most take a little adjustment time getting used to press coverage, reading coverages and how to respond, finding soft spots in the zone, etc. I believe he will be an excellent NFL receiver, just not immediately.

Having watched McMillan in several games in college at Arizona, I believe he will need some time adjusting. He is certainly skilled, has great size and great hands with a huge catch radius but I also believe he will struggle with press coverage, which he struggled with at times in college. He has great upside but he is NOT in my view an instant star.

And that will be true if we draft Golden as well. Rookie WRs typically have an adjustment period. The things they could easily do in college is much harder to do at the next level.

Instant, no. But neither was Lamb. TMac will be top 10-15 in a few years.

I do think he's that good. The way he runs, there's no doubt in my mind that he can improve his route running.

Golden isn't seen as a #1 guy. Golden is not worth it at 12. Most of these WRs aren't.

That is the question. I do not want an Alvin Harper, who was a good #2 but could not lead the team when Irvin was out or double teamed. I want a superstar who can take over the game, a # 88 type, a Drew Pearson, a Michael Irvin, a CD. I believe TMAC can be a dominant WR in the NFL for 10 years. He will be open a lot, so Dak does not look so dumb throwing into tight coverage to the receivers who are not open. TMAC and CD together will make Dak look so much better.

If TMAC is gone by #12, then trade down a few spots. Golden is super fast, but so was Alexander Wright the 1st pick of the 2nd round in 1990, who was a bust as a WR. He reportedly ran a 4.19 40. Golden has the lowest yardage per game of top receivers drafted around the 12th selection. Keep in mind Ohio State's EBUKA in a trade down, perhaps twice, is battle tested and is ready to play unlike other receivers who need development time.

I would take TMAC at 12. If not, trade down and get at least another 3, so that that the team can draft a RB in 2nd and CB and DT in 3rd round.

I like T Mac, I just don't think he fits our QB.

Outside of the obvious players who are we talking about? I agree we need to find the most impactful player at 12 that's going to have a role as a rookie. The draft is short on blue chip talent and where we sit is kind of in dead man's territory. The one player that comes to mind is a reach at 12, but he is probably the best player at his position, and that's OG Grey Zabel. I see the Seahawks, Packers, Vikings, Ravens as potential 1st round buyers. When it comes to getting value in this draft, I'm not sure where that starts, ever teams board is going to be different. Players are all over the place.
Do we just take Zabel at 12 and call it good and move to day 2? I know there has been very little to no talk at all about him, but he is an excellent fit for our run scheme. Plus, we signed a handful in FA, but those are only 1 year deals whom are basically camp bodies for competition.

He's talking about in terms of adequate production. Probably used the wrong word. He likely meant can he step up into the number 1 role?

I definitely think he has the tools to do so in time. Like. Lamb, although I'd say Lamb will be a bit better because I could argue Lamb is WR1 in the entire league.

At the same time, I wonder if Golden could step into a similar role. I'm not nearly as confident.

But even Lamb needed that much work. That's all I'm saying. It's about projecting the final product and being able to utilize what tools he has not to get production now. Just like with Lamb and Amari.

I think TMac is the only true round 1 WR. I love Bech, but likely wouldn't burn 12 on him even though I think he has serious potential based on his recent trajectory.
