It certainly will not be Ball. They could very well use Tyler Smith in that role and use their interior depth at guard.

Interior depth?

McGovern is barely serviceable. We saw that last year. They drafted Smith to be their starting LG. If they have to move him to swing tackle, that's such a monumental screw up by Jerry and Stephen to not bring in a real OT in the offseason.

Those two knuckleheads seemingly never can get out of their own way.

There’s definitely more depth at interior OL than OT, so having Tyler Smith as the defacto swing OT isn’t far fetched.

Every year certain players take leaps in their development.. exp the OL, where O’lineman tend to take time to acclimate to the NFL more than any other position at the Pro level.

On the recent ‘Hanging with the Boys’ podcast, Nate Newton stated that Conner McGovern is currently ahead of TSmith based on knowing his assignments and not being out of position. He also stated that if we had to play a game right now.. he would start McGovern over Smith. Yes, Smith has waaayyy more potential and we love when he pancakes opponents, but it only takes ONE misread to get our $40mil QB injured.

That said, I’ll take Nate’s advise over all the arm chair GMs on this site.

After 4 years of limited playing time..24yo McGovern may have developed into the player we hoped he would be when he was drafted in the top 100 in 2019. And I personally believe 6’7” 320lb 24yo Isaac Alarcon is on the verge of finally show casing his abilities. And 24yo Farniok is already making noise at Center and can play G also.

My point.. we have some very young, but strong young hogs in the stable. So yes, I could definitely see one of those kids stepping up if needed at Guard, allowing Tyler Smith to fill whatever tackle spot needed.

But I don’t disagree that we could snag a veteran OT to fill the swing OT role. Yet I also agree that the sky isn’t falling if we don’t. We have options.

Rookie Waletzko and Isaac Alarcón should be our swing Tackles.

Leave rookie Tyler Smith at Left Guard where he is needed and is dominating. Tyler Biadasz is not 100% a for sure player at Center. If he starts screwing up once again this season, Matt Farniok will be needed to fill in at Center for him.

McGovern is no Center. Get rid of that project idea. He snapped a shotgun snap tonight that rolled all the way to Dak. Horrible. Leave McGovern as a back swing Guard. Period.

Tyler Smith reminds me of Trevon Diggs.

Diggs may give up some yards and a TD at times, but we’re good with it, bc his ball skills translates to INTs that could completely change the momentum of a game. No harm, no foul

Likewise Tyler Smith can maul and dominate opponents.. yet his aggressiveness could stall drives. BUT!..if he wiff’s on a block and allows Dak or a tailback injury.. this could swing the momentum for the entire season.

Don’t get me wrong.. I want Smith at LG. But folks need to temper the excitement just a bit. I love the crushing pancakes and how he manhandles opponents.. but I won’t love Dak injured.

Biadasz is the unquestioned center for another year. Another argument you lose. Glad you finally figured out mcgovern can’t play center. Another argument you lost.

He's played ZERO OT in August camp. So if he's not experienced enough to beat out McGovern at LG why in the world should we then think he could end up being the swing OT?

Good question. I’m not advocating that he play Tackle. In a perfect world, Dal would have signed an established swing tackle.. but they didn’t. And have you seen what OT’s are available? Let’s just say it’s not inspiring, nor does it make me feel any better if we did sign any of the guys available. They’re either old/often injured or last decades names. (And before someone mentions La’el Collins.. outside of his obvious hip concern, there was something behind the scenes that didn’t mesh well with coaching..revisionist history is awesome though)

Tyler Smith on the other hand.. was an All-ACC OT , so let’s say that position isn’t foreign to him. As a matter of fact.. playing Guard is more unfamiliar. Yet, he’s a strong, dominate, aggressive player. So starting his NFL career at Guard makes sense. It will showcase his strengths and hopefully limit the penalties. And here we are.. advocating Tyler Smith start at LG even though he hasn’t played that position since a junior in high school… yet, everyone is good with that.

All I’m saying is.. If Tyler Smith had to play OT, I’d feel better with him playing than some of the leftovers available in FA. Just my opinion btw.

Relax, folks. Jerry and Stephen have it all under control. Trust the process.

More lies out of you as usual.

I said Connor Williams, not Connor McGovern. You still have it wrong. FYI, Connor Williams is now the starting Center with the Dolphins.

It's just a matter of time before the Cowboys get tired of Biadasz's screwups and plug in Matt Farniok. At that point, both of my estimations will be complete and will prove beyond a question of a doubt who knows more about Center.

Unlikely. IMO if he was he would have spent more time at OT in pre-season but we may get desperate and be forced into that situation.

God I just dread the day Jerry is gone and we have to depend on Stephen. He is worse than his daddy. And he talks too much like his daddy.

That's because they waited too long. They should have taken care of this months ago when there were plenty available.

IMO, it's not likely at this point, but they do have hopes for him to be Tyron's eventual replacement at LT.
Unless he becomes the second coming of Larry.
