I can't either. I don't know why it's so hard to comprehend that just because a press conference is one way, it doesn't mean it's the same way behind closed doors. No coach is going to come out and say that this assistant has failed in public, no matter how true it may be. Even Parcells most of the time wouldn't throw people under the bus in public, but you know he reamed them at practice.

I think the real answer is that people know this, but it would remove an easy gripe, even if it isn't based in fact. When people don't like someone and want to ***** about them, what do they care about the truth?

It really does have to do with the guy in my sig. I think the first part of that movie is absolutely hilarious, when he's tearing the guys a new one. For some reason, people like butt-chewings and think they're great -- when they happen to someone else, of course. People get mad at the team losing and want to see a Gunny Hartman-style beatdown, and when they don't get it, they throw a fit.

But it's not going to happen, not in public.

True and the reason is it is the HC responsibility for all. If his assistance coach’s mess up that is on the HC they are his guys and no coach worth a damn will ever throw his coaches under the bus you man up and take it and Wade has done that. You don't tell the media hey it is all Stewards fault don't look at me.

btw: The guy in your sig died in his Marine jammies in the latrine ("Full Metal Jacket"). A crazed Marine grunt gunned him down when your tough guy asked "What is your problem!!?" Problem solved.;)

Furthermore, I long for the days of even the anemic "We needed to go in a different direction," as if that is not vague and touchy-feely enough or the more direct "We felt the department/team/unit was not making the progress we envisioned."
It's just dumb to be that oblique and not just say what happened. Be up front for once, man!

I guess when Wade gets his pink slip the front office will say "Wade Phillips has decided to go on a different career path to pursue other projects but we wish him well (wink-wink)" in this era of don't-say what you mean because we don't want to offend, even if the perp left our team in tatters.
