he's been bounced out of Head coaching jobs in the past? , Yes, the players like him and respect him - or do they really? do they do it with a smile inside? "Coach , my knee sore - gotta go to hot tub" "Sure, take today and the next off...don't rush back"

You think guys look for a built in vacation from ol Bum Jr. ?

Yep, that's exactly why he hasn't been successful and why we won't make the playoffs this year. You are so smart to figure that out all by yourself.

You can go back to the Raiders board now.

:lmao2: Raiders board! what!?
No, no you misunderstood - all I'm a bit concerned about is the amount of dudes missing practices and TO resting etc, are guys viewing this camp as an "easy walkthru" ?
That's my concern - I love the Wade hire, can't stand Parcells -so I just hope Wade can crack the whip when needed.

The players are accountable to each other......supposedly the players will police themselves......we will find out who our true leaders are.

That's the first I heard of that - who decided that the players will police eachother? And didn't we all scream aloud last season that thjis team severely lacked a leader on the field when on defense?
How can Bradie James police anyone when he gets exposed routinely?

Wade told TO to sit out, try reading up on the subject clown. Almost every other player thats been out is coming off a surgery. There's two players that aren't coming off surgerys and neither are expected to make the team. One hasn't even passed a physical (Coleman) and the other just recently came up with a sore knee(Rector).

We?

Are you a Cowboy fan or are you a chargers fan as your name implies?

I know some Charger fans who are friends of mine. They want Wade Phillips to fail. I'm not sure why... I suppose they don't want to think that he should've been their coach instead of pitiful Norv Turner.

Clown? why are you shooting personal insults at me - when I just asked a simple question "are you concerned that Phillips is TOO soft" yes, I like his approach - it's kinda like Barry Switzer's in th sense he let the players police themselves and do what they want as long as the showed up to play and players loved Barry , except of course Aikman .

Wade Phillips is no Switzer, thank God. You are all dreaming if you think Phillips isn't tough when he has to be.

He hasn't consistently won and won in the playoffs. That will get most coaches fired.

I don't see where players are taking advantage of Phillips to sit out of practices. Every player that has sat out has had legitimate reasons. T.O. has sat of training camp practices for years with several different head coaches. He did it last year with old, tough Bill Parcells. It is no different this year.

If this camp was looking like a Switzer lead camp, I'd be worried. We have been drafting high character guys for the last few seasons and have rid ourselves of the Antonio Bryants. Lets let Wade have a season as coach before we pass any judgement on his style.

I agree. Main thing is the players buying into Phillips system and thus far I see nothing that I'm overly concerned with. Guys came into camp in great shape and seem pretty excited about what is going on. The final judgement on Phillips will be how this team performs this year.

Not trying to pick a fight, but the premise of this thread isn't very good. A "Good Time Charlie" means someone who is your friend when times are good, and turns his back on you the minute things go bad.

What evidence is there of that? Wade's former players love him and I've never heard of him turning a back on any of them. Not even Mike Vick who is having it about as bad as it can get.

He's right. Not on the subject, but the "outrage" that someone would actually question Phillips is ridiculous.

Phillips is a Texan......Switzer is not (he came from arKANSAS)

Phillips is a tough as Texas, yet at the same time, as friendly and comforting.

Phillips has Lone Star values racing through his veins........something Switzer has never had.

Never confuse Phillips' good ole boy demeanor with that of a cowering lion......he may be all warm and inviting like your grandma on sunday supper........but if need be, he can strike ya like a rattlesnake. he treats a man like a man and lets em know that hey, you had to be accountable for your actions. if you want to succeed, its up to you to work hard, but if not and you fail, its your fault too.

Both have been very successful in their football coaching careers......and that is because of Texas. Switzer used Texas players to make OU a powerhouse (definitely couldnt have done it with only OK players)....and then he came to the Cowbouys (the only true Texas NFL team) and won the SB.....Switzer owes all of his success to Texas.

Phillips learned from his daddy, another Texan and has become a very successful defensive coach in the NFL....he has also been a decent head football coach. I wouldnt call him bad, but i wouldnt call him great. I just say decent. I think this is his first true chance with a deep talented roster.....we will find out what he is made of right here and now, and I believe he will show the world once again

DONT MESS WITH TEXAS......

If Phillips was some pushover or puppet he would not have lost his job in Buffalo. Ralph Wilson said they did not want to fire him but when Phillips refused to fire the special teams coach they let Phillips go. A pushover or puppet would have towed the line.
