Still, the perception is Phillips is too soft on his players. Some wags in the media have even dubbed what's going on in the Alamodome "Camp Cupcake."
"I don't know why they would call it that," Phillips said. "If they'd been to practice, I don't know why they'd call it that. If you ask the players, I don't think they'd say that."
Romo bristled at the suggestion the Cowboys have it easy at camp under Phillips.
"That's (far from the truth)," Romo said.
"This is about the same as the last camp we had. And in reality, the meetings are probably longer."
"A lot of minicamps, a lot of OTAs (organized-team-activity practices) help out a lot," Romo said. "That's part of the reason you don't have 25 two-a-days anymore. You have so much stuff in the offseason, it almost feels like a training camp."
Romo also scoffed at the notion the players don't fear the soft-spoken Phillips, who hasn't yelled once during practice.
Phillips' philosophy is "You either go to work or you don't," Romo said. "If you don't, you won't be here very long."
