Is Ware really comparable to LT

I stipulated he has never played even a preseason game. What is it that Parcells sees that reminds him of LT.

I acknowledge that LT went to the Pro Bowl 10 times and recorded 132 1/2 sacks in 13 years. I think he is the only defensive player to be awarded NFL Player of the Year. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. He is the cast for the current position now. The first one.

But he was "only" 6-3 and 237. Not even the size of Ware. And not as fast either.

It's only for grins as you're right. He can't be actually compared career wise. That would be ridiculous.

What does Parcells see to heap that kind of praise on a rookie from Troy State?
Theoretically they are the same size if you factor in Tackles being smaller when he played so it's the equivalent to the size of Ware Vs the Tackles now a days (if that makes any sense)

He doesn't remind me of anyone. I have never seen him play. I've seen a few video clips and have read a bunch of hype. Any producer could make a video clip that makes Troy Hambrick look good, so that says all you need to know about the validity of video clips. There are a ton of guys who never meet the hype associated with them.
All that being said, I am about to bust at the seams due to excitement over this kid. One word I keep hearing when coaches and veterans talk about Ware is "special". They all say he is a special talent. He has that special something that you can't define until you see it. I hope it's real and I can't wait to see it.

Actually it does a little. Should I be afraid of that??? :)

So what about Ware reminds you of LT if at all or whomever you think he reminds you of.
I can't answer until I see him on the field of play.

Its hard to compare the two since Ware hasn't hit the field yet in an actual NFL game. I think the Cowboy's opinion of Ware is highlighted by the fact that PARCELLS said SPEARS was the key to the Cowboys ENTIRE draft and yet WARE was picked before Spears. The Cowboys chose a player they ranked higher on their board over a played they really needed (Spears) to succeed in what they wanted to do this year.

Not that I knew, so I looked it up. Since 1938, besides Taylor, only 2 defensive players have won.

1971
• Alan Page, DT - Minnesota (Associated Press)

1974
• Merlin Olsen, DT - LA Rams (Maxwell Club of Philadelphia)

And from the 'there ought to be a law' department-
1982
• Mark Moseley, K - Washington (Associated Press, "The Sporting News"):dissskin:

All hype aside, what if he turns out better? Just what if?

No one remains "the best ever" forever. Emmitt stated his sophmore year he had the all time rushing title as his goal. People laughed out loud when he said it.

What if Ware is better than LT? Pipe dream I'm sure. But wouldn't it be nice to take it to the house on this one?

You all are forcing me to go out and get a Ware Jersey if they exist.

Thanks for the correction. I should learn not to use my memory. Of course they weren't the only winners the years they were awarded it but neither was LT who shared it with Simms. Page shared his with Staubach and Griese and Merlin shared his with Stabler. I never pay much attention to it and thought it was given to only one person a year. Not true. Sometimes only one person garners all the different awards for Player of the Year. Here's a link for those who want the real facts. http://football.about.com/od/nflhistory/l/bl_awardsmvp.htm

I begin with this quote from 1994: "Shante Carver is tearing up the camp."

We don't know jack right now until the full NFL speed of real games.

I think part of what made LT great, besides the physical attributes, was a complete and utter disregard for his body and reckless abandone on the field. The man had amazing instincts and was as determined as anyone to destroy the opposing QB if given the slightest possibility.

I'm not sure yet that Ware has that mentality, but time will tell.

As to who I'd compare him too thus far I'd have to go with Kearse his first year in the league, before injuries robbed him of some speed. I realize Kearse is slightly bigger, but when he first came in he was only probably 6 or 7 pounds heavier than Ware. They both show amazing quickness and balance. If you'll remeber they often pulled Kearse off the line into pass coverage, something almost unknown before him for a DE.

What I really want to see from Ware is some real aggression on the field.

See I don't remember hearing Carver was tearing up camp. I know I never saw anything on Ellis or Ekuban beating even Torrin Tucker. So I am excited by this guy. God help me.

The only quote I remember on Carver was that Jerry said Jimmy Johnson said it was a good pick, but I never heard that from anyone but Jerry.

A better question might be what about the two players is different?

There are many physical similarities, but what sticks out to me right now as different is: LT played with a sort of controlled rage that helped him get to the QB. He was just about like a madman out there on the field and that, IMO, is what made Lawrence Taylor, LT.

If Ware can play with a lot of fire he might approach what LT did. However, I think he's without that controlled Rage that made LT so great.

Actually, I think that was an out of control coke habit.
