If he gets them deep in the playoffs the answer is no. I think Cousins has shown that he is a worthy QB and the Skins should have just manned up and payed him. The Skins have had the most unsettled QB position in the NFCE since 2000. Every other team had or has a guy who was the clear leader (Romo, McNabb, Sheli) for years. Dak and Wentz look to continue this, and Eli is still playing. It's funny that the Eagles knew right when to let McNabb go, and he ended up sucking on the Skins.

Not really since it's basically a 1-year deal. I don't mind overpaying for a player if it's on a 1-year deal basis. Problem is that it's the QB position and you need to have QB's on a multi-year deals for obvious reasons. And I think Cousins wants $25+ million a year. Have to wait and see what Stafford gets. I think he will want more than Stafford and I really can't blame him. I don't think either is actually worth $25+ million/year, but it's the QB position and the scarcity changes everything.

Danny boy and company pretty much treated Cousins as the red headed stepchild when RG3 was there; and instead of being smart about things after the second year when RG3 started to blow up they kept on doubling down on stupid. So he naturally got disgusted with them and felt no loyalty or reason to stay. THEN they pretty much tried to lowball him. Once again doubling down on stupid. Now they are wondering why he wants to go elsewhere?
Bottom line Is that I would not blame any player that wants out of DC. As long as Danny boy is the owner that will not improve. Jerry at least seems to have learned which there is at this point no indication that Danny boy ever will.

They are caught in a horrible position. They have a guy who has had monster games and is just good enough to demand top QB money but isn't good enough that the team feels confident in giving it to him on a long term basis. They have no other option but to use the tag to string it along as long as possible until he either proves worthy or flames out.

LOL, the ding-dong Commanders. They're screwed next year.

Cousins is loving this. He's made almost $45 million in TWO SEASONS, and now he's about to be free to sign a $100 million contract with (probably) San Francisco.

He's doing the Darrelle-Revis thing.

Cousins got 20 mil last year I think and 24 million this year all guaranteed so wouldn't it have been cheaper to have just signed him to a regular contract last year?

My understanding is he refused to sign a long term contract with Washington this offseason. I'm guessing he wants out of Washington even at the risk of not signing a long term contract.

Good for Washington. hah

Commanders should have let him go 2 years ago. Now they have put themselves is a really bad situation. Cousins is good enough to have the team in the hunt for the playoffs but likely not good enough to take them all the way. Which means they will likely not be in a position to draft a legit replacement.

Colt looked better than cousin in this
Last PS game.
They could have gone with colt and used that $ on defense etc.
It is good for cowboys though.

Cousins is in a group of QBs that all got paid. There are only like 12 or so QBs that have played since 2009 (as far back as I looked) that have consecutive 95+ passer ratings at any point in their career like he has.

I don't have the list handy but it's obvious QBs like Brady, P.Manning, Brees, Favre, Romo, Rodgers, Roethlisberger, WIlson, Palmer (technically. 1 less pass and he wouldn't), Warner, someone else and Cousins.

He will get paid just so someone can see if he can do it again.

I don't think Washington is a fit for Cousins. He would do better on a small market team that actually wants him.

Yes - he is milking the franchise and is not loyal enough to sign long term.

I think what the Skins have done is not bad in theory, but they are going to find a way to screw this up. Cousins has put up huge numbers the last two years but I personally would not consider him a top 10 QB. I would be leary giving him top 5 QB money for 4-5 years. So in theory giving him one year deals at big money is not a terrible thing imo.

In my opinion where they will mess up is they have not addressed QB in the draft if/when Cousins leaves. Colt is a good backup but I would not want him as a starter. Sure, they could address QB in the draft next year but for every Dak/Russell Wilson there are about 10 Paxton Lynch, EJ Manual, Conner Cook, etc. Guys who will need a lot of time or who may never make it. I was really worried Dallas would be in this spot prior to Dak showing himself last year.

By not setting themselves up for after Cousins, they really risk being irrelevant in the NFC East for the next several years if they do not make the right QB decision soon. For all their decent moves lately, not having QB addressed can have dire consequences.
