They are caught in a horrible position. They have a guy who has had monster games and is just good enough to demand top QB money but isn't good enough that the team feels confident in giving it to him on a long term basis. They have no other option but to use the tag to string it along as long as possible until he either proves worthy or flames out.
I still think Cousins walks away from Washington after this year.
Cousins got 20 mil last year I think and 24 million this year all guaranteed so wouldn't it have been cheaper to have just signed him to a regular contract last year?
I don't think Washington is a fit for Cousins. He would do better on a small market team that actually wants him.

Not really since it's basically a 1-year deal. I don't mind overpaying for a player if it's on a 1-year deal basis. Problem is that it's the QB position and you need to have QB's on a multi-year deals for obvious reasons. And I think Cousins wants $25+ million a year. Have to wait and see what Stafford gets. I think he will want more than Stafford and I really can't blame him. I don't think either is actually worth $25+ million/year, but it's the QB position and the scarcity changes everything.

Looks like Cousins was also waiting for the Stafford deal lol
