Is Witten the reason Fasano, Bennett and (Maybe) Escobar flamed out?

.....No team drafts a TE in the second round whom they only intend to block. I agree that it was never anyone's intention for him to overtake Witten, considering he was 23-24 at the time, but that certainly wasn't Parcels plan.

Arizona drafted a blocking tight end in the second round of this year's draft

Teams usually never draft a TE that high to block that's exactly why Fasano was drafted. Bledsoe was a statue and they drafted Fasano to help block for him. He was best blocking TE in the draft but became expendable when a much more mobile Romo replaced Bledsoe.

That's a terrible reason to draft a TE in the 2nd round...

I agree blocking TE's can be found in the later rounds but Bledsoe was nailed to the turf and was taking a lot of sacks which prompted the Cowboys to go after Fasano who was reported to be the best blocking TE in the 06 draft at least according to some. He reminded Parcells of Mark Bavaro and thought he could be developed into a solid receiving TE. Once Romo took over and the Cowboys started becoming pass happy they unloaded Fasano and another player for a measly 4th round pick after the 07 season. They saw Bennett as an athletic freak with his basketball background and Jerry saw images of Antonio Gates.

Romos rating would have been significantly higher had those receivers made those plays.

The receivers screwed some plays up and Romo missed some throws. The entire team including Romo didn't play the way they had been through most of that season and a hot Giants that was on the rise took advantage of it.

That is certainly true. One of the more disappointing losses in recent memory.
