The unique way we are structured assures the Cowboys always take the most difficult route to success. That's just the reality of the situation.

It's much easier to complain than come up with a better plan

Like going QB in rd 1? It stressed the over reliance on Romo's health while showing what else needs to remain injury free. The solution (as I read it) was go QB high and stop putting yourselves into this situation by not thinking long term at the position. Shooting craps in the corner before the season starts (Cowboys' reliance on Romo's health) was our current strategy.

I think 2014 comes down to 2 things..

neither of which will probably happen again..

First..we had Romo, Murray and Dez have career years all at the same time.

That hasn't happened since '92-'96...to have the QB, RB and WR all just beat the opposition like they did.

Second..we had to have the Kelly-lead Eagles completely collapse. Which they did..they had a 2 game lead with 4 to play and choked.

Now I think all of us know what happened in 2015.

So I certainly do not see those stars aligning in any way now with Murray gone and Kelly.

So now what?

You are not going to recapture things by just getting a RB and plugging him in 25 carries a game and you are not going to replace Dez or Romo.

The team is going to have to re-establish a new identity going forward.

Not chase the old one.

So what is the plan?

Defense is the only logical direction as there is so much tied up in the offense already with the huge Romo and Dez deals and 3 #1's on the OL.

I'm suspecting therefore if you want to know who the draft picks ate going to be..

Look at the starting salary contracts by position on defense and you will see exactly where the team is going to draft.

They are going to fill the voids there and continue with balancing the financial books along with the postions that lack play and money allotments.

That's what I see.

Which means DL, LBer/Safety and CB.

Not in that exact order but those 3 are the targets I'm guessing.

If those get addressed in the first 3 picks..that would be fine with me.

FAgency is another matter entirely.

There are going to be some cuts after the draft and on June 1. Some ours and lots of others.

The real juice for our improvement maybe that phase still to come.

Hard to say.

1st RD QB contracts aren't nearly what they used to be and can see rds 2-5 going D. Hopefully with a RB in the mix in (3-4). But long term, QB is the way to go. Good post.

2014 O and 2015 D wouldn't be bad. I expect both to improve a tad.

"A tad"?

Dear me, I have not heard that since the Queen Mum's birthday bash 10 years ago.

But bollocks! Yes both should improve somewhat.

I don't think going QB early is a season saver if romo is injured but taking a QB is about the future, not this season
I personally like Wentz and if developed properly I think he can be a very good QB but don't know that he could save the season if romo is injured
For this season to be a success we need a healthy romo and much more out of the defense. For the future we need the next romo

You're correct in that I meant in the future sense and preventing these "problems/ remaining injury free" was more referenced to my earlier posts in the thread.

Some things deserve complaint. I wasted time reading a story that advertised itself as some high-minded plan, then proceeded to reveal its big answer to be "get better players in every unit."

Brilliant. I would fax that right over to Valley Ranch.
