It’s so obvious that pass targets will be a huge problem

The only answer is scheme. If these coaches go into this year thinking we can just out athlete other teams like we have in the past then we will have one of the worst pass offenses in the league.

Unless we have the out of no where Miles Austin type happen again then it’s going to be a struggle.

We’re pretty stacked everywhere else offensively and defensively but unless we make a trade it’s going to be Zeke against 8 or 9 in the box.

X’s And O’s will be critical this year. If the coaches don’t scheme better it’s over for these coaches.

WR’s and College TE’s is what I’ll be watching during college football next year.

give me guys who can run routes and catch the damn thing.
Gallup and Wilson...along with Hurns and Thompson are WELCOME additions.
get Noah Brown more involved and we might be onto something.

get rid of the body-catcher.

I think we've got a pretty good collection of underneath guys who run good routes. No real #1 or lid lifters, but I think we can spread defenses out and move the ball.

And we can finally drop the jump balls to Dez. We just kept trying and trying those and it was a wasted play almost every time. I liked that they tried to get Dez involved and see if he and Dak would work out, but at some point, you've got to cut bait.

I am extremely anxious to see what type of scheme(s) we will be running on offense and defense. I hope it isn’t what my gut is telling which is basic offense that involves muscling our way with a 12-4 record to have injuries take its toll by week 14. We have the talent to do that but it never last in the playoffs where in my opinion coaching can be pivotal or detrimental. I am staying optimistic nonetheless.

Who knows? We may even run the ball when we're inside the 10!

Still can't believe that goal-to-go series vs Seattle.

I think the problem isn't so much that we don't run, but that when we do run it's in super, super predictable ways.

Someone on here posted a stat that the Cowboys ran something like 90% of the time when they were inside the 35 and bringing a FB or an extra TE. If you telegraph your power running sets that badly, then heck yeah, people will cheat up on it, and that's when you end up in those stupid RPO plays after you get stuffed a couple times.

Not gonna lie, that Stanford TE we just drafted kind of scares me in that regard, because he's being brought in as a blocker.

Yeah I figured the coaching staff mainly Linehan would have been held accountable for that play calling. I know I blew up watching it lol.

3 WR base. Beasley is a guy teams have been doubling. Gallup and Hurns are route runner upgrades from TWill and Dez. 1 guy over the top, double Beasley, and one man for each WR leaves a 7 man box. Very roomy.

Stacking the box is more dangerous against those guys. Simply having Beasley out there means one body has to cover him. If it's only one body, he plays pitch and catch with Dak all day.

Better route runners mean you better have some help over the top, or you better back off. Press man without over the top help just won't play like last year.

Also, the oline is looking very solid with Collins in his second year at RT, and Williams at LG. Noise is that Tyron is feeling a lot better. If everyone is healthy, the oline should be dominant.

Definitely get Noah Brown more involved.
Yes time for TWill to go. Gallup, Hurns, Brown, Thompson, Beasley and Wilson. Not sure about Wilson can he push TWill off the roster, or be a PS player. I doubt they keep 7 WR’s as they now may keep 3 QB’s, and 4 RB’s and 4 TE’s. So may keep only 8 OL. they have before.

This thread makes no sense whatsoever. We clicked on offense in '16 sans Dez with Williams, Beas, Butler as our featured WR's. I get that everyone MUST have a "hot take" but why some yearn to DEFINE our 2018 season in April is just so baffling and thirsty to me!!?? We drafted Dak in what the 5th in '16? NOBODY outside of the coaching staff knew anything until TC yet we still insist on this stuff?

So,it's still a safe assumption #21 is sidelined on Third downs & the DUNBAR 2.0 is sent in,,,or will this vast plethora of receivers somehow change that?o_O

I’m defining strictly the pass offense because I just don’t see the targets as anything to worry about if I were a Cowboy opponent.

I think I’m more concerned about the TE position then I am WR because Dak is good at throwing to the TE and kinda terrible at throwing to the X & Z.

Reality check time.

Name me a team that has worse receivers than we do. (receiver and TE's).

Lets stop pretending Hurns was some superstar. He is a #2 receiver. Thats it. T Will is awful. Most already assume he wont make the team.
Beasley is a 5'8 slot receiver that had 1 decent season 2 years ago. Swaim has 9 career catches and no potential for more.

We drafted a guy in the 3rd round that no one here mentioned as a good WR option leading up to the draft. We had fans all over about 8 different WR and this guy wasnt even mentioned so stop pretending he is some messiah.

Wilson is slow and does not run routes well. Not saying he cant eventually but right now I hope he doesnt see the field that often

We will be ok....we have a lot of targets now plus a great running game...going to be exciting to see how it develop.

You nailed it. If i am a fan of any other team in the division I am excited over what this Cowboys team brings in the passing game.

Zeke would have a hard time even if we had threatening WR's because everyone figured out last year that forcing Dak to beat you was the best strategy to take.

We need a TE and we go out and draft another blocking TE. We have Swaim and thats all he is.

This is looking like its a rebuilding year unfortunately.
